yep here i am in koh chang playing on an insect infested internet cafe, it's pretty awful........ i got two flying ants on me me keyboard and loads flying round me head..
now i got to admit the beaches are nice and it's clean, but fok the insects are getting to me, i really should have brought hillbilly with me to eat them all.

ok the first thing is not to drive when pissed out of your head, they got no lights and hills of 50 degrees going into 180 degree bends, you ain't going to make it if you're pissed, there ain't no leeway on the roads, u go off the roads u will wreck ur car.....

now being a bit smart, i got here and asked at the restaurant for 1000 baht hotels. unfortunately the hotel they recommended which i'm now staying at had their sign down, erm so we foked up a little bit and went a bit further, now you really do not want to stay in 350 baht bungalows, believe me, i shall post some pics of this dog kennel when i get back tomorrow, it's awful....

aaah, yes, back to sunny jomtien.
well i got to admit i didn't like all the insects, it was mainly flying ants, still next time i know to take a couple of issan gals with me to eat them all..

well i took a few hundred pics, mainly of my car, but a few others as well.

well i suppose i should start from the beginning, it's about a 3 hour drive from here down pretty good roads, now the important bit is the ferry in trat, it isn't actually in trat, its about 20 km away, of course that didn't fool us cos we know everything here isn't where its supposed to be.

the ferry is actually pretty good, it sells beer and they don't charge for the car, its a miserly 30 baht per person per way, can't get fairer than that.

yep a nice modern day ferry made of metal.

anyway when you land at koh chang you can go left or right, right is actually the way you want to go unless you want to see fishing villages, now i have to admit the fishing villages were quite nice but we decided to return and then go right, yes i know i could have looked at a map but hell who cares? now as i mentioned earlier the roads are pretty awesome, very few warning signs and 180 degree bends on 50 degree hills, most of the time you're driving about 40 km, i think i got up to 120 km on one stretch of road but that was pretty dangerous, also if you have an underpowered petrol engine car, don't expect to make it up some of these hills unless you have a reasonable speed up b4 you start going up it, i saw several cars parked on these hills because they could go no further....

    my first mistake...

me being smart decided to ask at a restaurant for a 1,000 baht per night hotel, ermm well i think i posted this earlier, now if you see this place..

yeah quaint ain't it?.. well it ain't, its foking awful, 350 baht per nite and has this...

i mean how foking awful..... green tiles of all foking things with a red bog brush, well i only used it to piss in obviously, i'm not into squatting, i'm a farang for god's sake, obviously it was a cold water shower, i worked my way up with the water to just under my knackers and decided i was clean enough, hell i would be in the sea in the morning and then to a nice hotel, sod the expense. here's a pic of one of the windows and the electrics for the room, yes i know i should call it a shack....

i did wonder wot the tissue was for, then i realised the mossie screen was the wrong size, still i suppose some ppl wanting to experience how real thais live would probably have enjoyed this...

now this is where i would have stayed if i was rich........

    THE GRAND LAGUNA

now obviously this place is classy, way too classy for most of you lot in fact, if you ain't a guest you have to pay to get in, 100 baht per person, now me being smart and that negotiated it down to 100 baht and 4 cigarettes, you also get a great big VIP badge to wear, my son loved it, anyway we had a wander round and found the bar, with the entrance fee you get a free snack or something but i wanted beer and me son wanted ice-cream, now the staff here are actually trained to be helpful and actually know their job, yes quite a rarity in this country, anyway they got these pushbikes you can use, yep and me son wanted one to ride round on, so over comes the waitress and i ask how much to rent, she then tells us they are free, all we need to do is goto the reception and hand over some id and off he can go, my son goes fok that, i ain't walking all the way back there, the lovely young lady said,"dont worry, i shall get them to bring you a bicycle, now that is service.

    here's the beach

they live in boat type things

my apologies about the last pic, this was taken b4 i made the cleaner pick up the leaf that is on the beach in front of the deckchairs...

    THE WATERFALLS

now koh chang is not only renowned for all the insects it has but also its waterfalls, now obviously the dry season ain't probably the best time to admire waterfalls, but we went, now most of the streams were all dried up, the ones with water running down them were, well to put it nicely in my beer drinking days i have pissed more than that, so we follow the tourist signs to go and see some nice waterfalls, just as we get there this nice lady points to the sign saying waterfall parking 10 baht, me i'm no sloucher when it comes to a good deal, so we parked and i handed over 10 baht, we walk the 30 meters to the park entrance and i struggle and read the sign
    FREE FOKING CAR PARKING.......
    20 baht adults
    10 baht children
off we go to the ticket office and i hand over 40 baht, there was an ominous silence, i waited, he waited, i broke the silence and told him that the sign said 20 baht for adults and 10 baht for kids, where's my tickets and where's my change? he then said that's for thai ppl only, i then told him that i was thai and he could ask my son. which the idiot did and my son said i was.

he's getting good at this lying stuff..

well it turns out he weren't gonna let me in for less than 200 baht, now i have been to yosemite and seen proper waterfalls, i'm not going to pay 200 baht to see some tiny little poxy waterfalls, so i left the decision up to my son, i asked my son wot he wanted to do, he goes sod it, that man is trying to steal your money, let's go somewhere else, this was all in thai so i'm sure that thai park official feels proud of himself when a thai kid of 12 says he's trying to steal my money and we both walked out, so we didn't see no poxy waterfall that probably didn't have any water anyway....

    HAT SAI KAEW

now this is the main tourist destination, two 7/11s, a few beer bars if you forgot to bring a lady with you, loads of tacky little souvenir shops selling the normal junk that you really don't need, crappy shacks and luxury resorts.
the beach is quite nice, but obviously has thai hawkers wandering round chasing the tourist dollar, i'm sure so many of the tourists go to the beach to buy sunglasses and fake watches.

there are numerous restaurants there and all the food we had was good, further down the road is an indian restaurant and also a mexican, although that one looked like they were still building it, here's some pics of white sands beach.

these were taken early morning so the clouds hadn't cleared then.

here is a picture of what we shall refer to as backpackers shacks on the beach, now these are rickety wood shacks that you wouldn't have room to swing a cat in, i believe these are about 500 baht per night, now when you reckon you could knock one of these up in a day for a few thousand baht, you can see that these guys are raking the dosh in, further down the beach they had some real nice luxurious ones, aircon etc, obviously i hung around there so ppl thought i was staying at a high end place, little did they know that when i pointed at where i stayed it was actually behind those lovely bungalows on the beach and across the road at the hotel.

Some nice links for Koh Chang

    http://www.iamkohchang.com/Baan_Rim_Nam/index.htm

thats from some ex english language teacher drop out guy, but it is a nice site

    http://www.hostelz.com/display.php/2...nky+Hut+Resort

funky hut resort, now thats a good name, heres his write up on his place.

We are a small family run (European) resort located on the quet eastern side of the Island.
    Accommodation
We have 5 huts constructed from natural materials and each has its own bathroom. Each hut sleeps up to 2 persons in a double bed and they are just paces from our almost deserted beach.
    Restaurant
Our restaurant is regarded by most who visit as one of the finest on the island, offering fresh seafood cooked in many regional Thai styles. We also offer a wide range of unique snacks as well as an entire western menu. Our burger is to die for and our Crab Cakes are great!
    Location
We are conveniently located for all the attractions on Koh Chang but you will need to rent a motorcycle to get around (250 - 300 baht a day) which we can arrange on arrival. Ifyou are looking for great service and great food in a quiet unspoiled setting, Funky Hut is for you!
    We are not for everyone!
If you are looking for discos and loud nightlife Funky Hut is NOT for you.
    hmmmm, no discos...

    THE FISHING VILLAGE

well all the road signs kept on going on about this fishing village, i envisioned colourful boats with young ladies working on fixing the nets and all that sort of thing, but alas, many years ago it may have been a fishing village, the houses are all built over the sea and have been converted into lovely souvenir shops and dive shops, obviously we wasted our time walking all over the place and then went to the 7/11 at the entrance, i mean who the fok goes to a fishing village to look at dive shops and souvenir shops, did i mention the bitch who charged me 10 baht to park my car and then asked me to move it, i mean i don't give a fok about the 10 baht but then the bitch asked me to move my car, it's lucky i'm such a happy go lucky chappie really, still i run over one of her baby chickens where she asked me to park so that taught the bitch.

anyway back to this godawful fishing village, this had as much to do with fishing as a gogo bar has to do with being a nun, it really had absolutely nothing going for it at all, here in this pic you can see the toilet and the concrete rings that all the shite goes into before it is released into the sea.

well i suppose it's a bit better than seeing floating turds, and i really doubt that these ppl bleach their toilets, and i think crabs and prawns like to eat turds, well turds and dead bodies...

now the next pic is of a newly built house, he must own a few of the poxy souvenir shops to afford this, its actually quite nice and tasteful.

and next we have a building site using traditional materials like pilings and concrete next to a nice thai traditional sea food restaurant. i mean i have to say i was expecting seasoned timber and that sort of stuff from this fishing village, to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement.

    heres a nice article from

    http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-ca2-7days.htm

to read the rest click the link

When bringing your bike over make sure your brakes are in order as there are steep roads with tight hairpin curves. Once on the island we headed White Sands Beach on the west side of the island. This is the most developed area of Koh Chang. Two 7-11s, a few banks and ATMs, shops restaurants and hotels/bungalow line the main road. It is also a narrow strip sandwiched by the beach and steep mountains. We were losing daylight and were scrambling to find decent accommodations. Unlike Bangkok or Pattaya where 700 baht will get you Aircon, TV, hot water and Fridge, expect to pay 1200-1500 baht a night for these amenities. There are plenty of low end accommodations from 150 - 700 baht but that is usually a bungalow with a bed, fan, cold shower and not much more. A few in our group opted for that, one couple in our group got a room at the Alina resort for 1000 baht (another guy showed up with his Thai girlfriend and got the same for 800) and I happened to meet a guy who had a bungalow on the opposite side of the beach road with air and TV, cold water, no fridge - a room for 800 baht, which he discounted to 700. I was told I got a deal but really didn’t see the value. Arriving on a Friday night also made it difficult as many places were full with weekend travelers.

eating in Koh Chang, this is quite a nice site with some actually useful info.

    http://www.whitesandsthailand.com/restaurants.asp

and heres a nice link for hotels on Koh Chang and prices.

    http://www.thailandkohchang.net/

cant understand why the hotels etc are so damn expensive.

Koh Chang's attractions include a monkey training school, elephant trekking and waterfalls. The pristine mountain backdrop and fine sandy beaches ensure that this resort will be a favoured Thailand beach destination for many years. Mid morning the tide goes out to display excellent beaches, freshly cleansed by the sea. Volleyball and football are played by locals and visitors alike and night-time chairs are set on the beach in time for all to enjoy the daily spectacular sunsets. The laid-back feel of the island and slow pace of life make this Thailand beach resort as close to paradise as any beach-lover could expect.

We can only but pray *very, very hard*... that you decide not to return this time & bore us to the point of suicide with anotter ridiculous field trip.

In fact dd I've ask the Sensible brothers *didn't he mention that he was one of seven twins* (kinda ugly lookin bunch ain't they, not sure why they are nekkid... must be an old Aussie custom) to bar you from returning to the mainland, next time.
