    Chonburi Recommendations

Can any of you good folk recommend resorts/islands in the Chonburi area. I'm after a 'Thai' resort ideally, i.e. not a 'bar' area and no farang in speedos - banana boats and som-tam will suffice.

    ็ำHere we go.

The Tide Resort - Bangsan, Chonburi

It's pricey for me but it should be ok for you. This is a proper one. There's no many Farangs in Bangsaen (last time I went there, I didn't see any).

I went to Bang Saen once, stayed for a bout half an hour then drove on to Jomtien - I'd say one of the islands would be a better bet for a relaxing holiday.

If you like the island which is very very quiet, mobile phone is out of service, no A/C hotel, you should go to Koh Lan but you have to choose the beach which is on the back side. I went there once it's so scary!!!

Thanks Gow...Are the black triangles in the sea on the map that you posted sharks? I do hope not.

Somebody else mentioned Bangsaen; sounds like it may be okay for a couple of days, and then maybe an island. I too thought about Jomtiem Mr Nick, I quite liked it when I went there, but it was oh-so-very-gay.....Not that I'm prejudiced in any way, it was just so.......well gay.

Hmm.. what about beaches in Chantaburi? I bet, it's quiet there.

This one is Chao Lao beach; I've been there once. I didn't see any Farangs, all were Thais, talking and eating along the beach.

If you get bored with quiet place like this so you can head to Koh Chang, it's not far from there.

The Tide hotel looks nice, never been in the rooms, but the pool is good and the gym is not so bad. Pity it is only single sex in the sauna though.

Drive 10 minutes further south to Sri Racha and take a boat to Koh Si Chang (1/2 hour). There's a cool beach on the other side of the island from the docks, place to eat, . You can rent m'cycles and ride around. Beats Bang Saen for sure where the water quality is pretty bad and the beach lame.

    Bang Saen isn't very nice.

    It's more for Thai's

Viscious moneys at the mountain as well.

I don't think banana boats exist seperately from farang in speedos.

That's no way to talk about the locals.

Bloody are they will steal your bananas right out of your hands.

I always find giving them a nice toothy grin helps them relax

Sorry dont go to Bang Saen. I decided to try it a few years back. The Tides will cost you almost double of a comparable Jomthien hotel. The beach is fair at best, and it is boring. The best things I found to do was ride a bicycle built for two up and down the beach walk.

Dog recommended a hotel that I have tried. This place would be say 2500 or so in the off season.
