Sattahip - Whores, Clowns, Seafood and History

Suppose we should start off with the most interesting bits about Sattahip and that would be the history, anyway thats enough on that lets move along to the whores

I spent half the day in Sattahip again today, it's not really a tourists type of destination although some of the prices they are charging for attractions they are under the belief that it will be a tourist destination, anyway this place is near the main hospital in Sattahip, the Queen whatever it is, got to admit the name suprised me, The Harem, sounds like an Essex type disco, can't imagine many normal Thai girls go there, well if they understood the name that is.

Anyway if you do meet a young lady there next door is the swan lake hotel

Sattahip Percula Farm and the clown fish

So I was looking for the history place, on the way there I passed the Percule Farm, now they advertise themselves as the biggest clown fish farm, well in actual fact they use the word "Bigest" but lets not get pedantic over there obvious abuse of the English language, now this place has like 12 dirty fish tanks in it, sort of tank that you would find in any home that had a fish tank except the ones people keep would be a lot cleaner, so to view the clown fish clowning around or whatever it is that clown fish do was 200baht, yep, I gave that a miss.

You can see a green gunge filled fish tank on the left of this picture.

Thai Sea and Island Natural History Museum

    ^Left a slight bit more

So it was off to the Thai Sea and Island Natural History Museum, now remember Sattahip really don't see a lot of farangs so we would hope that they haven't learnt about double pricing and ripping off Jonny Foreigner, sadly hope lost out and on entering their completely empty car park they had a few nice signs for the restaurant and the ticket office, and, guess what, yep, 50baht for Thais and 200baht for nasty evil tourists, they will do you the Thai price though if you have a Thai driving license or work permit, so another crappy place I didn't bother going in as i only had 30 minutes spare anyway, although probably 30 minutes would have been enough to see it all.

The sea view was quite nice though.

Ahhh the Blue Sky Bar, Patpong.
Many a red blooded male came to grief there as I recall.
    What?? Not the real thing??
Some of the 'staff' were really something else, and the Muay Thai boxing was quite convincing.

You don't have even so much as a Thai DL? This is a good thing to have, not so much for the "privilege" of getting into dumpy Thai tourist attractions, but rather to avoid the "farang no have DL" tax that the BIB love to collect.

There's supposed to be a nice beach in Sattahip, but it's owned by the Thai navy or somesuch, and they like to wave off farangs. Ever been there?

Sattahip has quite a few beaches, I think they are all owned by the navy though, at most they let farangs onto the beach but some of the beaches are only opened on the weekends.

We've bought a house in Sattahip (well a shell of one to be renovated at a later date) and regularly go to the beaches. I often get approached and told to leave - my missus's friend is the wife of a high ranking officer and just the mention of his name sends the navy boys running away.

Cheap, excellent food down by the seaside golf course - we used to be able to use the duty free shop there as well but they clamped down on that.

The Harem used to be called something else. But you've gotta watch yourself in there at night. They have cops working there. But there are a lot of Thai navy guys in there and other undesirables who like to fight when they get a half a bottle of whiskey in them. Word is from my Thai buddies that you can go in there, but watch yourself.

The hotel should be ok, but probably older than the start of the Vietnam war!

There are a lot of beaches that you can go to in Sattahip, especially where the 9 hole course is down past the PTT station. You can go to the beach down on the end, or you can do Hat Sai Gaew further on and over the hill (best to bring your own camping supplies). You'll need to register and leave an I.D., if I remember correctly. But they do allow farangs.
Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money.

I forgot about that, you do need to leave your id at the entrance to most of the beaches in Sattahip.

The "Blue Sky" I'm recalling was on the main road north out of Sattahip. It got named that as a large chunk of the roof was gone and all you saw was blue sky - çept when it rained.

Quite a few gringos and their wallets came to grief there too...
