I'd avoid this place. Overpriced and right next to a joint that plays euro-trash dance music 24/7 - Loudly.

I wasn't impressed with Lonely Beach at all. More like wanker beach.

Maybe 'Lonely Wanker Beach' would work? Or 'Dalton Beach' for short?

Bhumiyama is overpriced and close to the Treehouse. Siam Beach Resort is at the other end of the beach far from the bars and much quieter. The village area of Lonely Beach is populated by mostly young backpackers who like to party. That is about one km from Siam Beach. The beach itself is a nice beach but occasionally can be dirty after storms and high seas, but is usually clean, with the cleanest part near Siam Beach. You also don't get somebody hasseling you trying to sell you something every 30 seconds.

either way, if I get the first ferry over on Friday I hope to beat the weekend rush and have time to check it out.

thanks for the info Pickel!
i was there this year for 3 days and it is a relaxing place, however, get to the ferry as close to the hour as you can, if my memory serves me correctly, the ferry leaves on the hour every hour , not much fun if you get there a little after the hour and you have to hang around
enjoy your trip

^You're referring to the Centre Point ferry. It leaves every hour and takes about an hour. The one from Ao Tammachat leaves about every 30 minutes and takes about 30 minutes. It's more expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Going to head down this way next month to combine a beach holiday for my family (my boys have never seen a beach), with a visa run....any decent beaches on the mainland around Trat anyone?

Laem Sing in Chantaburi is nice. More of a holiday place for Thais, and it was dead quiet when I was there last week.

Also this beach is not far from there:

^ Thanks for that pickel. Just checked it out on the map and it's perfect. Bus from Buriram to Chantaburi is long, and with the kids in tow will need to rest there, and Laem Sing is very close by. Can leave my family there while I do a border run at Pong Nam Ron----perfect. Have decided on going on from there once stamped back in to Koh Kut having researched TD, it sounds smashing there

Just returned from Koh Chang 2 days ago. Very easy to drive to the island from BKK in your own vehicle.
Spent a few nights at the Chao Lao beach in Chanthaburi before going to koh Chang. Plenty of accomos here too.
K.P. Huts at the Klong Prao beach in koh chang still looks pretty much the same when I first went there 10 years ago.
Although the number of bungalows have increased quite a bit.
They have a number of stilt houses right on the beach, rather retro.
Nice beach and very peacefull around here. The bungalows are situated in a coconut plantation and away from all the traffic and noise.
But these days gimme koh kood any day.
