Anyone know anything about this place?

Just wondering if any of our resident Pattaya-philes know anything about this supposed "rescue shelter".

I got this email fwded to me yesterday by an animal rights activist in Canada, who had in turn had it sent to him by a colleague. He wanted to know if the place was genuine, as they are advertising puppies for "adoption". My feeling so far is that it isn't genuine. The photos are not the sort of results you would get in a short time if a genuine rescue. No way you're going to turn a skinny sick pup into these in a couple of weeks - and judging by the ages of the dogs there, that's what they'd have to claim.

I also phoned the mobile number on there & it wasn't answered. 10minutes later, an extremely hostile Western guy phoned me back from another number. When I explained who I was & that I was involved in dog rescue & wanted some info, he told me it was a wrong number & put the phone down on me. So, either they're giving out a wrong number, or the guy didn't want to talk to me.

Anyone heard of the place, or seen it on your travels? I'd be grateful for any feedback.

    Cheers

According to this letter in the Pattaya Mail, their funding was withdrawn in 2004:-

Thanks, Sabang. I don't think it's the same place though. The letter highlights the sort of work I would expect an animal org here to be doing - dealing with & neutering street dogs. The one in the email seems to deal only with purebreds & doesn't really mention street dogs at all, which makes me wonder if it's really a puppy farm masquerading as a rescue shelter. Could be wrong, which is why I wondered if anyone knew it.

I don't get it, why would they be doing that? Hoping to solict donations do you think? Whole thing certainly sounds quite dodgy.

Perhaps for donations, perhaps the "adoptions" involve you paying for the dog. I have no idea, there isn't enough info on that one webpage or the email to judge what's going on. It just doesn't feel right; what most animal orgs here do & the little that they have put don't seem to gel.

Well if it's anything less than genuine it's a shame because this sort of thing could tarnish all the legitimate and good work being done.

There is an animal shelter at Plutuluang, on the '331', coming from Pattaya on the '3', turn left for Silverlake Vineyards and Kao Chee Chan (Buddha Mountain), follow the road down to the T junction with the '331', turn right and it's about 2-3 Kms down on the left.
I don't know if it is run by the same lady that I used to see putting down food in local rural areas, where there were stray dogs, although I suspect that it may well be.
I will post the telephone number after my next trip through the area.

^^^I think that one is funded by Tony of Tonys Disco fame, supposedly it is ok and I don't think he is soliciting for donations, the other one I have never heard of.

^ From what I've heard, Tony's is definitely OK & no, it's not the same place as this one. Looking as if I might have been right.

Sorry, drove down past the place yesterday, but did not see any telephone number displayed (was sure that they showed one before). Let me know if you still want contact details, and I will make a point of calling in.
