Ever since Ms. B started work I've been sort of slothful in my dining habits. Instead of going out and getting a nice Thai meal at one of the lovely food stalls around the moo baan I've been eating things like ham sandwiches and croissants.
Today I went out to the Pasinee Lebanese restaurant here in Korat and had a chicken Shwarma (kabob).
What I've noticed is that it doesn't take long for me to start craving spicy food. If I don't get it my stomach gets all bloated and I start feeling really full and uncomfortable, without having eaten much of substance.
I was feeling that way when we went out for dinner tonight so we ordered two nice spicy dishes at Kreua Khun Ya: Yam Pla Meuk and Tom Yam Gai. Just a few bites later my stomach settled down and I felt normal again. Of course, Ms. B's lips turned bright red and the sweat poured down her brow, but she liked it as well.
What is it about farang food that messes up the stomach and is it the capsicum in Thai food that puts things right again?
I'm leaving for the States on Wednesday and I'm not looking forward to three weeks of upset and bloat.
