    Spicy Food

Ever since Ms. B started work I've been sort of slothful in my dining habits. Instead of going out and getting a nice Thai meal at one of the lovely food stalls around the moo baan I've been eating things like ham sandwiches and croissants.

Today I went out to the Pasinee Lebanese restaurant here in Korat and had a chicken Shwarma (kabob).

What I've noticed is that it doesn't take long for me to start craving spicy food. If I don't get it my stomach gets all bloated and I start feeling really full and uncomfortable, without having eaten much of substance.

I was feeling that way when we went out for dinner tonight so we ordered two nice spicy dishes at Kreua Khun Ya: Yam Pla Meuk and Tom Yam Gai. Just a few bites later my stomach settled down and I felt normal again. Of course, Ms. B's lips turned bright red and the sweat poured down her brow, but she liked it as well.

What is it about farang food that messes up the stomach and is it the capsicum in Thai food that puts things right again?

I'm leaving for the States on Wednesday and I'm not looking forward to three weeks of upset and bloat.

    Your thoughts?

Capsicum is a digetive aid. But I eat everything spicey Funnily enough, I'm eating a crossiant and ham snawhich as I read your post. It is speard with a mayonaise I mix with chillies, limes reen onion and cilantro (pak Chee). it's about 50% chilies by volume.
When I'm in he US ad while in Fiji I am always bloated and a gain weight. Think maybe eating som much beef is one aspect of it Beef is tough to digest It takes time eating beef twice a day every day is the biggest thing I think used to blame the blame the bread and I only eat bread three maybe four times a week.

I always find that after being in Thailand for a while I start to crave sandwiches, so I go to the trouble of finding decent bread (normally a day trip to Tesco Lotus) and make myself a nice sarnie. I normally get through half of it and then regret ever eating it, I feel bloated and the sandwich just isn't tasty.

So, later on it's off to the shop for som tam and everything feels better.

Lotus, don't have nice bread, its that awful sweet stuff but Carrefour do, or at least my local Carrefour in Soi 77 does. Tasty, proper bread. the sort that you take home and slice yourself. Good stuff Carrefour, get your shit together Lotus.

Jesus, Carrefour is even farther away, and besides I get the french stick from Tesco normally, which it seems they don't load with sugar.

I usually get my bread from Yamazaki Pan. It's quite good. Every once in a while I have one of the chocolate Danish. It tastes great but a few minutes later I get that bloated feeling and I'm sorry I bothered.

I get bloated quite often too. I've started drinking Coke to get rid of the gas through violent (but fun) burping sessions.

Looking at you lot, I suppose I'll have to start eating that som tam shite.

True. So is ginger and lots of other fresh vegetables used in popular thai dishes. The order in which you eat your food is more important than many people realise, and starting each meal with a salad will work wonders for your digestive system.....avoid too much meat and bread

Bladdy hell marmers, you drink that battery acid to try and fix your crook guts??

If you want to fix your bloting problem, and are going to remain a baconandeggeater, you should atleast drink Oolong tea - you can buy it bottled in most supermarkets...

I've tried every tea known to may - it makes the problem worse.

Coke gets me burping and thus removes the bloatedness. I quess I could start eating Thai food 100% and stop drinking, but I want to enjoy my life.

You may feel good after a good burp matey, ...and I'm sure you enjoy them ......but drinking Coke is just a band-aid solution - and is bad for you. The health benefits of green tea and other chinese/japanese teas are real. Oolong tea for example works as a laxative - meaning you fart and shit everything out all at once, instead of burping out baconanegg gases in your students faces all day

....anway, I think I've spent enough time speaking about your bladdy stomach problems for one day
