Scientific Name : Presbytis cristatus

General Characteristics : Silvered langur has its pelage color of dark gray but with the tips of hair being paler in color, which gives it a silvered effect. The hair of the front side of its body, which is breast, stomach, and leg, is light gray in color. Its hair on the head is pointed up, while the hair on the side of its face is pointed horizontally. Its face, hands, and feet are black in color. It has no white marking spot around its eyes. Its lip is thin. Some parts of its body, such as inner side of its thigh, are white in color. Newborn will have white hair color around its hands, feet, and body. Its weight is around 6.8 kilograms, body length is around 493 – 570 millimeters, and tail length is around 725 – 840 millimeters.

Habitat / Food : It is found in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In Thailand, it is found in tropical rain forest in every part of Thailand. It eats leafs, young plants, and insects.

Behavior / Mating : It is normally found in thick forests and tropical rain forests. It likes to stay on high trees in a group of 10 – 40 silvered langurs. Old silvered langur likes to stay separately from others and do not like to live in a group. It normally makes a living during daytime on trees. It uses different sound tones for communication. Although lagur is a socialize animal, within the group, it is hardly have social classes.Silvered langur is mature and ready for mating at the age of 3 – 4 years. Gestation period is around 196 days. One litter contains only one young.

Current Status : It is a protected animal of Thailand under Thai Wildlife Protection Act B.E. 2535.
