Scientific Name : Pelochelys bibroni

General Characteristics : It is inferior in size to Striped Giant Soft-shelled Turtle. Its tortoiseshell is cream, thin, smooth, about 1 meter in length and 100 kilograms of weight or 80-90 kilograms without strip. When it is young, its tortoiseshell will be bright green with yellow spots which will disappear in age of 7-8 years. It has quite big and short head, long neck, big mouth, sharp teeth, small eyes and legs with fascia and 3 fingers with nail. Female Blunt-Headed Giant Soft-shelled Turtle is larger than male one. Normally, it lays many eggs in each time at riverbank same as the Striped Giant Soft-shelled Turtle.

Habitat / Food : It has been found at China, India, Burma, Malaysia and Sumatra Island of Indonesia, New Guinea, Philippine and many parts of Thailand, especially in Tak, Ayudhya, Bangkok, Karnchanaburi and Nakornsrithamrat. Normally, it likes to eat frog, crab, shrimp and fish.

Behavior / Mating : It is fierce and prefers to live under water for a long time due to it is able to breathe the oxygen through its gill.

Current Status : It is a protected animal of Thailand under Thai Wildlife Protection Act B.E. 2535.
