    Kanchanaburi Tiger Temple

Kanchanaburi Tiger Temple is actually about 40km from Kanchanaburi and about 6km from Saiyok, so I really don't understand why it is called Kanchanburi Tiger Temple, the original Temple is about a mile down the road and now they got some land to build their dreams, which don't involve a Temple, They got some Yankee gal and some other farang bird in there trying to get the money in.

Entrance to the Kanchanaburi Tiger Temple is 300baht and it closes at 4.30pm, you can get the bus there from Kanchanaburi and then walk the 2km up the road or get a taxi from Kanchanaburi.

So first up you got the walk with the Tigers, basically this comes down to Pra Acharn Phoosit Khantitharo wandering along following a tiger to the canyon, the tiger leads the way, foked if I would teach my Rotties to be the boss and lead the way, this is the time you can stroke the beast if you so wish and they will take your camera and do the photoes of you, and then they come and gouge you, yep, 500baht for a picture of the nasty tigers with their head in your lap or 100baht for stroking the tiger, I mean fok me aint the 300baht entrance fee enough? obviously not.

They got some Yankee girl working there as a tour guide who is basically bored out of her head doing the same shite everyday and thought it would be exciting, and some other English speaking bird who tries to help out.

Anyway as I have loads of pictures of this I shall edit my main post tomorrow.

    *Time to edit*

This place is supposedly a sanctuary for all wildlife to live happily together, trouble is Tigers like eating wildlife and killing small animals just for fun, they have 18 tigers there and most are either caged or chained up the majority of the time, at one stage a load of baby wild pigs came within 100 meters of the Tiger in these pictures, so one of the staff started throwing stones at them to scare them off, so anyway onto the walk with the tigers you actually just follow the Monk and the tiger as it makes it's way to the canyon, during this time you can hand your camera to the staff and they will take a picture of you walking next to and touching the Tiger, you are not allowed to get in front of the tiger, so you got 50 dumb farangs following a poxy tiger and some monk hoping for something exciting to happen, the aim of this place is to reintroduce these Tigers into the wilds, I mean fok me it don't take a genius to realise that human interaction with these big cats aint gonna help them adjust to the wild, so anyway you get down into the boiling hot canyon where most of the Tigers are chained up and you get offered the special deal of 500baht to have a picture of you with a Tiger resting it's head in your lap, what suprised me was the amount of people that went for this great deal.

Now all they need is like 20 million baht to build their Tiger Island so these Tigers that have been interacting with Humans for the last few years can get back and used to living the wildlife again.

The Tigers are supposedly drugged to stop them eating people and killing them, anyway here is a picture of the main Monks Tiger having a shite, as you can see the Tiger does have Bowel problems and sprayed the stuff out of his bum...

Is this at the bottom of the canyon, where they have you stand in line and then a guide leads you around while another snaps pics? If so, I wasn't charged extra for pics with the tigers.

Will they sell you a tiger, I've always fancied having one, the misses is dead against it though, she wont let me have an elephant either, now I recon elephant milk would sell well, bit of a niche market though

It's an accident waiting to happen.

I got a video clip of a guy riding an elephant and a tiger attacks him.

Tigers are incredibly strong and fast, and can leap a long way

Pra Acharn Phoosit Khantitharo cools down the Tigers in Kanchanaburi in the boiling hot canyon where most are chained up for the afternoon.

TIGERS and TIGER Temple Tours Thailand Kanchanaburi Wild Tigers

this place is an accident waiting to happen according to my kiwi mate who runs the daily tours there (linky above)...

tigers are drugged to ensure they stay calm although a few tourists have been bitten by the baby tigers...wars wounds for them to tell their grand kids about!...

if you walk around the back you'll see the wheels the abbot has just bought himself...although they don't like you poking your nose around there!!!...

That wasn't quite the input I was looking for marmers but I do agree.

Anyway if your driving there this is the sign to look out for.

This next picture is of an Aussie woman, she had a Thai tour guide, so there she was stroking this nice cute deer and then off we wandered to see the big beasty Tiger, now he suggested that she could stroke this nice cute deer, anyways we get upto see the Tiger and then he starts to do a pretend panic, "OH you smell of deer, maybe Tiger want to eat you", luckily he had a wet tissue for her to wash her hands so she didn't smell of deer and the Tiger didn't try to maim or kill her, I bet he got a big tip for saving her life.

More cooling down of the Tiger, you can see how much shade this one has I mean I was sweating my knackers off under the awning, that Tiger had about 30cms square of shade.

If i had a tiger I would make sure they had shade, I was thinking about feeding it live calfs and charging people to come and watch....I'm sure it would be a winner

Here is a picture of the original Tiger Temple where Pra Acharn Phoosit got his first tiger cub, it arrived in 1999 after some rich Bangkok guy had ordered it to be stuffed, so they had tried stuffing it, yep injected the old formalin and cut it open to stuff it but for some reason it didn't die, it only lasted a couple of months at the monastery before it died though.

It might be more fun to feed them live monks.

I talked to the TAT office about this place when I was recently in Kanchanaburi. It's hardly surprising to discover that they are quite supportive of the project to build a new centre. They said the entrace fee could rise to 500 baht next year as they're a bit short of funds. Maybe the monks could sell some of those new cars......

It's astonishing that in 2006 the WWF and other organisations haven't forced the government to close this place down. Tigers don't belong here. This is nothing more than a cynical ploy to earn money from witless tourists (yourself excluded DD, I know you were there to research for TD). A buddhist monk should know better than this, which begs the question about the sincerity of his beliefs.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

    Just found this.

Although the tigers appear tame, let's not forget these are still naturally wild animals. Sudden movements and too many camera flashes at one time can spook them. However in ten years there has only been one serious attack on a visitor, who survived!

Does it mention what they did with the tiger? Did they kill it or give it a pat on the head? Forgot to mention that the TAT office admitted that the tigers are given drugs in their food to limit their sense of smell. Nice, eh?

    Only one serious attack ?
Whats the difference between a serious attack and a non-serious attack ?

"the visitor survived" not much consolation if a couple of limbs have been bitten off.

What action did they take to prevent another 'serious' attack ?
None by the looks of it, unless they just upped the drug dosage

Sorry, but I am just appalled at the lack of safety here

    About Sri Racha Tiger Zoo.

And on 1st May a teenage worker at the zoo tragically died after being mauled by six tigers in front of more than 100 shocked tourists.
"She passed away in hospital," a spokeswoman from the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo southeast of Bangkok said, declining to elaborate on the attack that took place on Thursday. Media reports said 18-year-old Uraiwan Sansern received deep wounds and a cracked spine when she was set upon by six Bengal tigers she was handling for the benefit of tourists.
"Some tourists outside the enclosure tried to scare away the tigers by knocking on the glass panes, but the glass was too thick," a zoo tour guide told the Nation newspaper, saying the visitors were from China and Korea. It said fellow workers used sticks to chase the tigers away, but that Uraiwan was already severely mauled by the time help arrived.
The young worker was reportedly untrained to handle the dangerous animals, and was trying to make a tiger sit for tourists by hitting it with a stick when the attack occurred.

There used to be a Tiger Zoo in (Sung Men about 15 km from Phrae)

It was closed because the tiger's yard shared a wall with the primary school playground next door.

Previous to that one of the tigers had killed it's keeper but nothing was said because he was Burmese.
