    Long Barbel Danio

    Long Barbel Danio

    Danio pulcher

The Blue-Redstripe Danio is a fish that may be color morph of the widely known Pearl Danio. It is a tropical fish belonging to the Danio family (Cyprinidae). Originating from South-east Asia in southern Thailand, Chantaburi province, this fish is rarely found in the fish keeping hobby. It tends to be smaller than the Pearl Danio and have a distinctive wide luminous orange stripe which peters out under the dorsal. While still rare, it is known to hobbyists as Danio Blue-Redstripe. When originally discovered by H.M Smith in 1931 it was named Danio pulcher, which translates as beautiful danio, however it was later synonimised with D. abolineatus Scholars are currently undecided as to whether it is a separate species to Danio abolineatus or not however the majority concur that it is not.
