Thailand's Chang Beer Wins Gold Medal in the 2008 World Beer Championships

Thailand's Chang Beer Wins Gold Medal in the 2008 World Beer Championships
    January 9, 2009

New York, N.Y. (PRWEB) -- You might say that Thailand's Chang Beer is hoarding gold. Gold medals that is. The smooth, crisp and full-bodied premium malt lager import recently picked up its second international gold medal in 2008.

The most recent accolade was bestowed on Chang, the No. 1 Thai import in the U.S., by the acclaimed Beverage Testing Institute (BTI). Chang earned an impressive 90 points in The 2008 World Beer Championships and was awarded a gold medal in the Pale Lager Division with an "Exceptional" rating by the Beverage Testing Institute judges. BTI uses a proprietary blind tasting methodology developed by America's premier independent alcohol beverage review body. Six months earlier, Chang received a gold medal in the Beers, Water & Soft Drinks category at the prestigious MONDE SELECTION Bruxelles - World Selection of Quality 2008 in Vienna, Austria.

John Lennon, president of Chang Beer U.S. importer International Beverage USA, is thrilled with Chang's continuous run of back-to-back gold on a world stage.

"I have been in the beer business for many years, and few beers have impressed me more than Chang," said Lennon. "Once again the experts have spoken and the gold goes to Chang. We couldn't be more proud of Chang's performance in these tough competitions. It is simply one of the world's finest tasting beers."

Lennon describes Chang (Chang Beer), which has been in the U.S. for 18 months and widely available in a majority of Thai and Asian-Fusion restaurants, as an extremely smooth, full-bodied 100 percent malt lager with a complex aroma - a smoky, peaty blend of sweet green apples and vanilla - and a beautifully balanced flavor which is crisp and incredibly refreshing.

Lennon said he is particularly proud of Chang's performance against 31 other pale lagers, which are produced by a range of well known craft brewers and large international brewing companies. The lagers in the competition, many of them well established larger brands, hail from 17 countries around the globe and eight U.S. states.

The distinguished tasting panel described Chang as: "Bright golden color. Honeyed raisin toast aromas with a hint of lychee follow through on a crisp, smooth entry to a dryish medium body with a hint of apple, nut, and a solid roasted grain character. Finishes with a crisp, balanced earthy hop and pizza dough fade. A very nice food beer."

For more information about Chang Beer, contact John Lennon, president of International Beverage USA, 60 East 42nd Street, Suite 2134, New York, NY 10165, tel. 646-896-3807, and visit the Web site Chang Beer to learn more about this super premium import.

More About The Beverage Testing Institute Tastings

The Beverage Testing Institute is an independent, privately owned corporation that conducts professional, blind tastings and reviews of beverage products. It does not accept advertising or sponsorship from any producer or commercial entity. The participation of the BTI's World Beer Championships is completely voluntary and an open forum. The BTI tasting panel includes senior staff members of BTI, who are recognized ad world-class sensory evaluation experts in the field of alcoholic beverages. BTI also relies on qualified experts from retail, wholesales and on-premise sectors who have been trained in BTI's proprietary evaluation methodology. Full results of the World Beer Championships are published on Tastings.com. BTI awards gold, sliver and bronze medals to beers rating 80 points and above, and NR (not recommended for those under 80).

    More About Chang Beer

The award-winning 5% ABV Chang export beer is produced at International Beverage's state-of-the-art Cosmos Brewery (Thailand) at Wang Noi, Ayutthaya using water drawn from the deep wells located at the brewery - in fact, the water is so pure it is bottled at source and sold under the Chang brand name. In addition to the two 2008 gold medals, Chang Beer has also twice been awarded Australian International Beer Award medals - in 2007 it received a Silver Medal in the Lager category, adding to the Gold Medal it was awarded by the AIBA in 1998.

If this doesnt prove that Americans know very little about beer then nothing will. How on earth could Chang be described as

"Bright golden color.

Only by some bloke whos never had a decent pint or has never drank more than a tasters amount of the stuff.

    WTF's a pizza dough fade ?

    Heres my description

"Colour a bit like your wee when youre sick, chemical aroma with a hint of som-tam follow through on a sloppy wet fart, bumpy entry into the body of a 50 year old bargirl, with a hint of Klong water. Finishes with a gag reflex inducing taste of dirty underpants with a pa-laa fade. Hold your nose and swig it quick."

A Chang served at the right temperature is a crisp refreshing beer. A second bottle is a decent follow up, then a third. Etc.

But theres got to be a morning after, and most people I know do not drink Chang anymore. Theres something not right about it, it leaves you hungover and run down. Leo is innocous, inoffensive but far less harmful. Gold medals be stuffed.

Chang Export is nothing like the Chang we drink here. It's probably just Carlsberg like their draught stuff is.

Actually I think the opposite. 90% of the blokes I've met in Thailand who drink Chang were closet alkies. It always seems to be the hardcore drinkers slugging it back.

Budweiser is the best selling beer in the world, which speaks volumes about the average beer drinker... It appears most care less for flavor and more or less drink for effect... I won't drink Budweiser or Chang, as I don't drink a beer that goes down the same color that it comes out...

A Honda Integra is badged as Acura in the US.

As someone already said, don't assume the same piss we all know as Chang is the same beer the judges were drinking.

Can't beat a cold Corona on a hot day with a piece of lime suck in the neck on the beach surrounded by bikini clad girls.

Obviously compared to American beer Chang would stand out as it actually has some alcohol content. The testers probably had two mouthfulls, got pissed as farts and ran down to the nearest strip joint to dry hump the dancers thinking they were in Pattaya.

Given the number of "Best Beer/Wine" awards worldwide not surprising even Chang can claim to have won a gold medal.
