I will stick to Singha, a reasonably priced local beer that does not have to fly halfway round the world to disappoint you

get disappointed locally

I agree with most of your reviews here, but of course a few I haven't tried. I do entirely agree with your reviews of Beer Lao and consider it, baht for baht, the best beer available in Thailand, not counting silly priced Euro imports.

Ah...Beer Lao...but 60-Bt or more in Thailand? Ack!

Is available everywhere for a mere 8-Baht a bottle in Laos! Light or dark.
Also, FYI, the Laos brewery now produces Carlsberg beer, under license from Carlsberg.

I picked up some chinese beer in Mai Sai and I found it to be very enjoyable.
I think it was called Hunan but not sure of the name.
Has anyone else tried it ?

Alright, so I will start with my opinion of the beers we tested.

It poured quite well, but lost its head fairly quickly. It has a light, clean taste with a delicate flowery sweetness. Because it is so inoffensive, it is very easy to drink and very moreish. A good session beer.

7 out of 10.

I am really looking forward to the next one...
I am quite not that enthusiastic with that as Marmite. What he redeems as a refreshing taste reminds me of the bad aftertaste of a beer Chang. It's not that worse though but brngs the rating down to 5.0

It poured very well and had a good head which didn't disappear. The first thing you notice is the nice burnt malt taste. It's not overpowering; it's just there giving the beer just the right amount of flavour. For a strong beer, it is not at all syrupy and I would've guessed that it was much weaker, because it is so well balanced taste-wise.

Absolutely lovely.

8.5 out of 10.
Although I normally drink pale beers of the Pilsener variety (which some people who don't know better call Lager as well), sometimes a dark beer is a nice variation of taste and this dark beer was really nice.

The accountant in me has to state that this is although 30% more value for money as it costs he same as the pale beer Lao but got a higher content of alcohol.

6.0 out of 10

Mate:

Just going to crack open one of these - (and I like the fact that in Aus you don't need a bottle opener, as they're screw tops)

3 for A$12

OK-ish beer. Thinking 5.5 but will give it 6 on the basis that I've not had a hangover.

6/10

I've just opened my first Victorian Bitter that I brewed with my own fair hand. Don't confuse it with that shit they manufacture in Australia; this is a full flavoured, dark English Bitter.

It has a very hoppy nose and a good bitter taste, almost like a mild Guinness. It's probably about 4 to 4.5% in strength, as although there is a little sweetness, it's not at all syrupy.

Pretty bloody good actually, and will get better with age.

One down, 47 to go.

I think it may be a little bit stronger than 4.5%, maybe 5 to 5.5%. Jolly good!

Just buy the concentrate form the UK.

This is what I'm quaffing right now...

Quote:
Victorian Bitter
In the 19th century, malts were darker and hopping rates higher than they are today. So Victorian Bitter is a dark, full-bodied bitter with a sweeter finish; balanced by a high level of bitterness and true hop character. This is a popular darker bitter served in the rowdy inns of Victorian Britain and often now served as a guest ale in English pubs. Serve at 13°C (55°F). Makes 40 UK pints.
50 +/-5 °EBC, 45 +/-5 °EBU
And this is the next one on the list...

Quote:
Executive Bitter
This outstanding, classic English well hopped ale, with a deep bronze colour modelled on premium bitters available on draught in English pubs. A smooth, malty and well-balanced beer. Serve at 13°C (55°F). Makes 40 UK pints.
35 +/-5 °EBC, 40 +/-4 °EBU
British DiaMalt - malt extracts, barley syrup, cereal syrups, beer kits, wine kits

If you're thinking of buying any, they're excellent. I'll share an order with you to save on postage. And if you're in Bangkok and want to sample some first, send me a PM.

I used to do a fair bit of home brewing many years ago. I'd been considering ordering some concentrate but was wondering what customs would make of it. Hmmmm.....

Problem as I see it is the room temperature. This time of year it's about right but we're coming into the hot season and that may be problem (although better a bit too warm than too cold for fermenting)?
