Do you remember the make?

Had a look in Tops today - Johnnie Walker Blue Label - 7,000B

Gold Label (matured 18 years)- 2000B and Green Label (15 years)1600B .

Black Label (12 years) - 900B. - these aren't all single malts though.

Well , I'm on the Red label at the moment but next pay day I'll try and get some single malt.

The 100Pipers Malt (blended malt) was about 550B and matured for 8 years so it could be worth a try.

Agreed.

Don't drink much whisky but always have a bottle of Jamesons hanging around. I think at under 600 baht it is certainly the best value. After that, Glenfiddich is still comparatively cheap here.

And for the pedants, yes I know. Jamesons is actually a whiskey.

Remember the older the whisky doesn't mean that it is better.

It is just the choice of the distillery. Some whiskys are best bottled at 12 years some at 15.

Just because its old doesn't mean it's good.

yey, something to do with the alcohol content or something- apparently whiskey loses 1% strength each year through the oak casks so maybe some is aged longer to get the right strength.

not sure what they do if it's too strong though - add water? , doubt it.

I guess that's where the blending comes into play.

The new Piper's whisky is aged 8 years, so it is supposed to be mellowed from the generic swill that is younger. Why bother? For that matter why bother with the Johny Walker blends either? It is worth spending a few extra bahet a single malt with some age on it - and at leasy a hint of smokey peat flavour.

I agree with you Ken May - I'll hunt around for some single malt stuff.....they don't seem to do it in Tops but not too surprised there.

What's the Kloster beer like, is it better or worse than Heinekin?

Cask strength is around 50% or so but when bottled they add a little water to lower it down to 40% or so

Ok, I'll avoid it then as most of the beers here are foul.

Is Klosters drunk much in Germany?

I personally much prefer Kloster to Singha which tastes like embalming fluid (according to my cousin who used to work for an undertaker).

What happened to Amarit?

I heard that San Miguel was opening a brewery in Thailand, is it up and running yet?

I have never seen it here but maybe it is just a local beer. If I remember correctly Singha bought a german brewery which is brewing Singha beer for the european market.
In fact, the only time I have drunk a Kloster was in Thailand and I decided to never make this mistake again.

Kloster is a Thai brand, now owned and manufactured by Singha.

San Miguel make Blue Ice and Red Horse, both of which are shite. Sadly, the Flippa San Miguel is not available here, as it is not bad.

As for whiskys - I only drink that Welsh bourbon, which is now made in the US (Jack Daniels), as I can't stand scotch. Wild Turkey is rather nice too.
