Sattahip Wat

This is Wat Ya Pup in Sattahip and it's Mothers Day (Thailand Mothers Day), or it was then, so time to drag the old hag round some Temples.

No idea why she wanted to go to Sattahip in particular as we got a load of Temples in Pattaya, but who am I to argue.



The entrance to the main temple, quite nice but pretty much the same as a million other Buddhist Temples.



The Chedi is quite nice, think they done a good job on this one.






Inside the main Temple with people praying.



The big Buddha that everybody prays at and on the right one of the ones in need of gold leaf.



You will have 1 piece of gold leaf for every statue or whatever you have to stick a piece on, I think we got 4 pieces of gold leaf each, now don't try to be clever and stick it on a corner where there is none, the reason there probably is none is that there is grease or oil from peoples hands there so it wont stick, it then blows onto the floor and if there is a slight breeze it will waft away, you can either chase it and look like a fool, or just pretend it was some other idiot trying to be clever which is what I do, stick the leaf on top of other gold leaf.



Money tree, now try telling a Thai that money doesn't grow on trees.



Incense, candle and gold leaf, the gold leaf is in the folded up paper, the paper is held in a split piece of bamboo, this in turn is held to the incense sticks by a rubber band, so when you do go to light up your incense sticks don't forget to undo the rubber band, no idea what will happen to you if you burn the blessed gold leaf, but pretty sure it won't be good.

Anyway once you got your incense burning, squat down, have a quick pretend pray and stick them in the pot with all the others, the candle is a bit of bugger as you have to melt the wax and get it to stick on a metal stand, being such a thin candle it doesn't dribble a lot of wax, so melt some was that is already on the stand.



Flowers and orchids, not really sure what these are for, you take some and then stick them in another container, I assume then they are moved back to the original and it carries on, probably had to pay some money for them.



Outside there was a load of food vendors, although these were heavily outnumbered by the lottery ticket sellers, I suppose after a quick pray and all that the Thais feel a bit lucky.

There is one Wat in Sattahip, actually Samersan, the just off the fishing village soi not the one on top of the hill overlooking the gulf, where the custom is to walk around the Wat. It has to be an odd number of times that you walk around and the more times one walks around, suposidly the better luck they will have.
