    Monk Ceremony - Phitsanulok

Last month I went to Phitsanulok to join my friend's monk ceremony. Nothing's interesting but I still want to show you some pictures.

His monk ceremony was a short one, normally it will take 2 days in my home town but I think this one is not bad, it took only 1 day.

Early morning, the parents, relatives and friends cut their (he and his brother) hair.

    I love this piccie.

Then he and his brother sprinkled water on their parents (and old relatives)' hands and feet.

Ok, it's time that they will get it back. Yes, I mean "water" but their parents not just sprinkle but "take a shower" for them.

After shower, it's time to get dressed.

Ok, ready to go to a temple.

After a monk taught them and made them ready to be a monk, we paraded them around the temple (not exactly a temple but it's a part of temple)

After about 1 hour in that temple, yes.. they are monks now.

    This capture's just for memory.

After 7 days, they are not monks anymore and back to the real again.

    "Welcome back, darling"

Nice pictures GOW. I understand that all men become a monk at some stage in their life. Is the 7 days you quote a minumum period that you must stay, as most people that I have met said that they were their for a month?

Yes, people who got a job, mostly they stay only 7 days.

Every companies will let their (male) staffs to take days off for being a monk 3 months but they pay 1 month only and these guys have to work in the company at least 1 year.

They will not be monks. I agree with AO, they will be nuns. They might shave or no shave, depend on what kind of nuns they choose to be.

When I was young, I was a nun once with shaven head, funny.

Long long time ago, there was a female monk but they found out that it's so difficult that women can be a good monk because physical of women are not like men. There's many items in the laws of monk that women can't keep. After that, the buddha didn't allow women to be monks.

Yes, my friend told me that also but I used that word already, just lazy to change.
