    Koh Loy Temple/Sri Racha

Well as I had to goto Sri Racha to sort out my poxy phone and get my monthly account back with AIS I decided to hit the Island off there to have a quick look to see if the chinky style temple was finished, anyway to get there goto Sri Racha and then follow the signs to Koh Sri Chang, go across the bridge and your there, although why they spent so much on a bridge to get there is beyond me and the car parks seem to take up most of the Temples grounds, anyway here is a picture halfway across the bridge looking towards Sri Racha, which I might add is probably somewhere you wouldn't actually want to spend your holidays.

And here is a picture looking across to the island.

    Nice bridge

As for the religious freaks amongst us there are many places you can pray to differant statues in the hope of winning the lottery or whatever else it maybe that people pray for, not sure what this statue is willing to give you but this family seemed to like this one

This one was quite smart and is in a cave, but nobody seemed to like this one, should we refer to these thingys as praying or begging places, not that it makes much differance as I believe niether God Nor Budha etc and all their gang actually give a flying fok about us lot, still some people need the emotional crutch of a religion and if it stops them killing people it can't be all that bad, well it don't seem to help their driving but maybe that is what Budha intended.
    Here is another praying area.

Marmers yesterday was an extremely grey day, you wait until you see me roof pictures, anyway now shut the fok up

Now where was I? ahhh, yes the gambling den, now obviously this place is camoflaged as a fortune tellers place, but it was quite obvious by the amount of interest the locals had in it it was just a gambling on sacred ground, didn't Jesus and his gang chuck all the hoes and gamblers out of the church or market place or something?

See that fok marmers put me off, that fat guy is the fat Budha, next picture is of the gambling sign.

Moving further up the stairs I found another praying place.

Ok, now we are getting to the good stuff, yep roofs and that sort of stuff, this is a thingy dragon next to a roof, in the background you can see that they are building more temples, does Thailand really need anymore?

Here we have rather a sublime tasteful roof which would be quite well suited for your average 3 bedroomed bungalow.

Of course if you don't want your roof to look like your average neighbours roof you could always spice it up a bit, something like this would certainly be the talk of the street if you lived in a nice terraced house.

Anyway here is another praying area that is gaurded by a monk.

This next one I aint sure of, they had a few walls like this, I think if you donate enough dosh you stick a picture of your dead friend/family in there and come to pray at them, not that they will take any notice but it's all good stuff

Here is yet another praying area, if your into praying and that sort of stuff this place has a whole day of praying lined up for you.

I'm glad you posted that picture, as I gather I am that I lined up for donating some wedge for Mother and Father in law to have a similar one.

Just as long as I don't have to pray to them!!

I think you misunderstood, DD. That's not Koh Sri Chang, it's Koh Loi.

Koh Sri Chang, you have to take a boat from Sri Racha and it takes about 30 mins to get there.

I was going to be pedantic and point out that Koh Si Chang was actually the big island in the background, but GOW beat me to it!

The real Koh Si Chang looks kind of interesting. From a distance it looks a bit like a smaller version of Santa Catalina.

Been many years since l was on Koh Sichang. There is a fair slice of history involved there. For a start it does not look tropical at all, it is quite dry and in the hot season, it looks quite barren. The Vinmamek palace used to be there, but it was taken down and the current Queen had it rebuilt on it's present site, probably a good thing too. l think it Rama 6 who built the place originally on Sichang, there are still some deserted cottages from tutors for the royal family's children. There is also a marine biology unit nearby for Chula uni IIRC. The old port is a maze of narrown streets. The story goes that this was the staging point for shipping, back in the days of sail. Ships going in to Bangkok would lay over here, before going up the Chao Phraya. So a hundred years or so, there was a thriving red light district in the little town area.

Cantona - the beaches are not much. The whole island dries out very much, the only real beach on the eastern side, in a little cove has no real shade, and gets quite dirty with styrene foam washing up from the passing fishing boats. As l said it doesn't have the look or feel of a tropical island, no idyllic coconut palms swaying in the breeze. You are better advised to go elsewhere, like Samet or back to Koh Chang.
