A couple of weeks ago Ms. B and I were looking for a village called Baan Nong Phet Nam. We'd seen the name on the side of songtaew and wondered where it was. We were driving through Ban Deua on the way home from the nursery when Ms. B spotted a school called Rong Rian Baan Nong Phet Nam. We turned at the next road and found the village. After driving a way we came across a very interesting old wat.

I didn't have the camera along that day but this morning I rode my bicycle out to have another look and get some snaps.

Here they are.

BTW, Nong Phet Nam means "duck swamp"

There must be quite a few of these poor, rural wats knocking about. In many ways they're nicer than the gaudy monstrosities that we usually visit.

very nice sight seeing place and it looks forbidden without authority...
if the peoples there are trying or planning to recover that wat...
i think just leave it as it is but cover the gaps around it and inside is free of dusts...leaving it the way it is, is more historian culture of it and siprits that are roaming there should have its privacy of it and the "used-to-it" of the place. Usually places like that, this one is a very good example of it, the spirits doesnt like to be bother. just by renewing it, putting newer colors to it could upsets the spirits and its not a good idea. So, when peoples go visit the place, the first thing they would recognize is the ancient history of it and thats what makes it beautiful.

Superb pictures! Would love to visit this place on my next trip up through the hills, yet part of me says that it would be almost criminal to intrude on the obvious serenity surrounding it. What do others feel?

It is one of the things most westerner does not get to see and as it is still being used it shows the commitment of the people in the village.

I've been there several times now. There have always been other Thais around and no one has ever shown the slightest displeasure at our being there. Of course, we dress properly, remove shows and show our respect in the usual ways.
