    SUPHATTRA LAND, Rayong

OK, it’s a nice day out, you have nothing planned for the day and are looking for a local road trip, someplace that offers good photo opportunity, someplace that is affordable, someplace that the kids would most likely enjoy, someplace that is educational, and someplace that has some food.
The wifey and I took this trip on Sunday, 27 Mar 2011:
Try a trip just to “SUPHATTRA LAND” (12°48’01.70”N/101°13’48.44”E) (www.suphattraland.com) in Rayong Province just 35 min down the road from Pattaya.

Open every day 0800-1700. “SUPHATTRA LAND” is an “agro tourism” site. A “fruit paradise on 800 rai (32 acres) with over 20 varieties of tropical fruits. 200 baht for a local adult or expat with a resident visa or Thai driver’s license, something less for children I would assume, gets one a 1 ˝ hour tramcar guided tour of the farm with stops for photo taking along the way, a stop at a fruit buffet where one can each as much fruit that their stomachs can hold, a stop at a bee farm where a hands on demonstration of a bee hive and how the honey is processed is provided, a stop at a papaya salad and hydroponics green salad buffet where once again one can eat as much as they care to, a access to the farm to walk around in. There is also a gift shop on the grounds where one can purchase fruit, honey and the like.
We were advised that beginning in May and thru July or so, the tramcar will stop along the way/route where rambutan and mangosteen can be picked and eaten.
It is a leisurely tour, with no stress to rush and is fun for all. Here are a few of the pictures of the farm. Enjoy!

    Jackfruit:

    Sala (??? My best guess):

Tour guide advised the following were vegetables and not fruit but could not tell me in English what the name was. My bride who has lived in the States and elsewhere outside Thailand with me also does not know the English name of this veggie so if anyone has an idea, constructive advisement appreciated.

    Dragon Fruit:

    Mangosteen:

    Bee Hives:

one queen bee for each boxed hive.

now this little gizmo spins the inside boards of the hive around and as a result of force of being spun around the honey is extracted and flows to the bottom of the stainless container.

I purchased a quart of honey for 300 baht. Demonstration was made to show how it can be validated that the honey was 100% as opposed to being watered down.
A fun trip and nice day out.

30 min or so. Take 36 toward Rayong. GPS coordinates into Google Earth will get you there and although in Thai the web page has a map. Something easily overcome with a local in accompanyment.
