A few days in Prachuap with benbaaa

Had a short break while my folks were over here at the beginning of the month, and decided on a few days in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Here are some pics (some from Mrs benbaaa and some from me):

First up, the view from the balcony of the hotel where we stayed on Ao Manao.

Fah Chom Kleun Hotel: ok-ish, but since they're the only place on the beach, they don't have to try very hard to please the customers. Rooms ok, but breakfast rubbish. Also, if you stay on Ao Manao itself, there's sod-all to do at night. Next time, we'll stay in town.

    Nice beach, though:

Didn't like the look of this bugger. That's my size 9.

This is what I was really there for:

Back in town, this is what passes for a tuk-tuk:

    Monkeys on the hill:

Prachuap Bay (Manao Bay is the other side of that headland in the distance):

    Nitelife

You can sit on a table on the other side of the road looking out over the beach, and the waitress'll bring beers over to you.

Finally, one from Chiang Mai. My mum spotted this bright red dragonfly in the park. Bizarre or what?

The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

That hotel looks really nice BB but you didn't mention how much. Not worried about the breakfast as I've got a travel kettle . That and a yogurt and croissant from 7/11 will do until lunch.

Oh yes, and what was your room number, otherwise I might end up sleeping in the same bed as you again and people might start to talk.

My parents, being civilized creatures, brought a load of nice red plonk with them (see picture), so it would have been rude to refuse to share it with them.

The hotel was inside the little air base - it's the only one there at the north end of Ao Manao. Can't find the card they gave us, but a little digging on Google turned up this:

Royal Thai Air Force Residence (Ao-Manao): Changwat Prachuap Khiri Khan, Amphoe Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan, Hotels & Resort in Thailand - hotelsguidethailand.com

You can see a picture of the car park side of the building, the other side from the beach. I think it was about 900B a night for a nice big, clean room.

Sorry Bangyai, can't remember the room number.

    Cracking little place Pratchup.

If I remember correctly that beach you stayed on is famous for being where the slippery little Japs landed when they first hit Thailand.

    Nice pics,

    Cheers

Nice photo. Are the monkeys there as aggressive as the ones in Lop Buri?

I really like it down there, but don't take the missus... she'd probably get bored when I'm out on my bike enjoying the mountains.

Never been to Lopburi but these little bastards were well aggressive when we were there in July.

Attacked a French couple (so I warmed to them a little) but then he was holding a big bottle of water and three of them sat right by the gate at the top snarling.

I went to walk up and one bared his teeth so I bared mine back and he did the off. I walked up there and they were fine to me except once I was up there I kept hearing smashing sounds and then a minute later I found out why!! The little fuckers were up on the roof picking off the tiles and launching them down onto the pavement below. Would do a good bit of damage if you were walking underneath at the time!

They weren't actually aggressive, but Mrs benbaaa and my mum were a bit nervous of them, so we bought some nuts and sweetcorn from one of the guys hanging round and asked him to stay with the girls while me and dad climbed all the way up.

That's my dad in the picture.

Eight or nine places in Thailand got hit by the Japanese in December 1941, and you're right - Prachuap was one. There was fighting over the little airfield.
