    Few nights in Khao Yai

Packed the car up with SBF and the sprog and headed from Pattaya up to the Khao Yai area hoping to find somewhere nice to relax for a few nights.

Drove up through the national park road, managing to avoid paying the inflated farang entrance price after SBF lied that I worked in Thailand...

Stopped to get a picture of some wild monkeys eating a packet of Lays...

    This one was quite sexy...

Then we ventured on out of the national park and found this resort which consisted of houseboats plonked on a hillside... Can't remember the name of it now - it's just next to the Gran Monte winery.

The house boats 3000 baht per night and looked nice to stay in but weren't the best option for baby SBF to crawl around near... The resort also had this chalet place with it's own pool down the hillside which they wanted 4000 baht per night for but we got them down to 3500 saying we would stay for 4 nights...

SBF and sprog doing what they are good at...

Nice garden looking down the valley..

Found this new shopping arcade styled like an old Spanish village on the road to Pahk Chong which made a nice stop for a beer...

Another day we did the tour of the nearby PB Valley winery which is owned by the same bloke that makes Singha beer....

There are some nice 'villages' being built around the area if you have a spare gazillion baht for a house there...

So, a good few days was had drinking red wine by the pool, scoffing great amounts of ferral food and taking in the local scenery.

Nice little report on my part of the country.

I stopped at palio walking st the other day for the first time since it opened and i was very impressed, lovely centre and I shall do some pics on it soon.

They have a new hamburger shop which is excellent......unfortunately, same with many businesses in this area, not shore how long many will last in there as business seems sporadic and slow. hard to make a living from only weekend traffic.

I was just there a few weeks ago with my brood 3 boys, 1 girl and the wife. We stayed at Bonanza. Very nice resort but I was disappointed by the Adventure park it was crap and most of the attractions were not working. However the people working there told us about Life Park and it was great the kids had a blast (so did I on the buggy), they have a huge balloon ride but it was too windy the day we went.

The park is attached to the HOME: The Greeney Resort Khao Yai and they have an amazing pool and water slide for the kids. I plan on staying there next time we go. Word of warning though Life Park is very expensive for the rides.

Another nice surprise was Khao Yai, as I pulled up to the entrance I was expecting to pay the farang price. However the lady at the booth asked me if I have a Thai drivers license which I do and I was let in at Thai national price.

Overall the place was fun and but not easy on the wallet. There is a new resort being built call DNA it is made of spherical rooms. It looks interesting we stopped to take a look and were told not to take photo's but we did then sped off. I will post them when I get a chance to upload them.

yes, DNA looks a strange, but interesting kinda place.

It will probably be tacky and whacky enough for the Thais to flock to it.

Life park.....been meaning to go, seen the baloon in the air many times and thought it would be expensive.....the whole park and greenery resort seem expensive.

Word of warning for greenery, besides the expense, it caters to large groups, many incentive and function crowds and you very often get all the hoohaa of the crowds and their leaders around the resort and especially at the pool.

By hoohaa I mean, loudspeakers, competitions, racers, team building kinda shit.

Not a great quiet resort....but that does depend on the day, not always like that. You might ask prior to booking and then again the day before if there are function groups booked in on your night.

Thanks.. Lovely part of the country it is too... Some very exclusive developments going up around there - heard that a friend of a friend recently bought a house for 32 million baht near Muak Yai... Bit out of my price range.

We checked out Bonanza resort and were quoted 3800 baht for a small pokey room..

Saw that DNA place under construction near the golf course... Looks like that Eden project in England.

Went for a drive and checked out a few other resorts nearby and couldn't find anything much cheaper really... Most places were quiet too so you think they might have had some offers on... Rip-off Thailand - here's hoping a bit of a civil war might eventually bring prices down and weaken the baht..

There are a few places under 3k for bungalows and some hotles.

    But it is relatively expensive.

There is a development around the corner from us just started and quoting houses from 50 million baht.

A few people have made a lot of money around here and now with all the celebs and superstars buying up the region....every dog and his man want a piece of the action.

hopefully these pice will ring a bell with one of you locals there. stayed here on way back from jomtiem one time, and can't remember name or find the place. on road between park and pak chong. here are pics of the nice setting behind the place, set back off road, shaded balcony opens toward lake out back. only 600 baht, worth the hassle of driving back and forth to the park if staying more than one day.

any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Looks like a great place to visit.

rather easy from korat, simply head south on hwy 2, you will have the large reservoir on your right, then pak chong further down, it is well marked. think the park entrance is about 35-40 kms off the main road. green circle is the park.

I dont at present recall this place.

Sure it is on the road from the park to Pak Chong ? Which side, left or right and got any other pics ? and right on the road or turn down a raod somewhere ?

I can find and get name if have some more info, but I have not been inside this one yet to recognise it.

i drove from jomtien to pak chong hwy 2. so on the right, not down a road, but drive is long, maybe 50 meters, not paved, i think, but hard / stones maybe. cannot see lake from road or front, as i didn't know it was there until walking thru room. parking is on the right, also not paved, but well compressed grass, lol, hotel runs perpendicular to road. some salas / stuctures at front to rear of hotel, thus blocking any view of lake behind. i didn't think it was that far from hwy, 10 kms or less, but can't find it. did a quick look twice, but decent place w/small restaurant. not a real big place, maybe 20 rooms, 1 level, check in at center, rooms to both sides.

thanks, would be nice to stay there again, nice break on that udon / bkk /hua drive. along with inexpensive place to stay and actually visiting the park. though don't go too crazy looking, but if in the area, would appreciate it.

I drive that road twice a day taking kids to school, so no problem to look.

Let me get it straight.....driving from highway 2 you turn off onto the Khao yai road to the left, go over the flyover and its around 25's to the park entrance.

You are saying it is on the right side going this way correct ? So you are heading AWAY from Pak Chong and towards the park entrance ?

I shall keep a lookout for it and see if I recognise your description.

Greenery resort should be forced to change it's name...I went to ask if they had any and they looked at me with wild eyes....and not the ones you or I were hoping for..

That is a joke by the way...

Pak chong is a rather affuent area..I lived there for 2+yrs till last April....couldn't get used to the cold winters...not my thing at all. However the placeis very beautiful.....and expensive...the wine ain't bad ....I love that PB valley....cracking drop...but for the price you can get an even better chilian or argentinian.....

Great pic's though...remember the place really well.....shame they're just so damn greedy round there.

don't bother looking for that place i posted pics to............i tried ye sterday and couldn't find, and road leads right into park, so may not be the correct road. also took the only to alternate roads that lead to hwy 2, and that failed as well.

oh well ...... though if someone does find it in their journeys, please post.

Lol...I have been looking but could not see anything to resemble your pics or what you describe and did wonder if you were on a different road maybe.....or smoking something.

There is the short cut to hwy 2 to Muak lek and there is a red roofed resort on the road that way, couple actually, so maybe out there.
