Nana Plaza is an overpriced hellhole. I'd rather take the time and effort to flirt with regular girls than spend a dime on any nightlife venue in Bangkok. 600 baht barfine is ridiculous. Then you pay 1,000 baht for ST (or 1,500 baht if you're an old fok). For just a few more baht, you could pay for a roundtrip bus ticket to Pattaya (210 baht), stay at a small guesthouse like the Dobler House (700 for two night), and barfine two gals at once and have a threesome (1,500).

Water woes blamed on poor plans
Published on August 10, 2005

Aerial photographs have found the water shortage in drought-hit Rayong province was caused by poorly planned industrial settlements, new communities and roads built across waterways.

Such chaotic growth robbed the Dok Krai-Nong Pla Lai basin of about 70 per cent of its water-catchment areas, according to a report by the Water Source and Agricultural Information Institute (WAII).

Roryol Chitradon, director of the WAII, yesterday said the water shortage on the eastern seaboard, especially in Rayong and Chon Buri, had been caused by the construction of factories in the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate since 2002 and the expansion of farmland and communities in the area. Roads were also built across the watercourses and tributaries of the Rayong River, the report said.

“Rainfall at Nong Pla Lai reservoir was 600 million-700 million cubic metres per year, but it retained just 300 million cubic metres,” it said. The situation at the Dok Krai reservoir was similar. “Both reservoirs retained just more than 30 per cent of the precipitation. They should have retained more than 50 per cent,” Roryol said.

Woman found dead inside her Central Pattaya Apartment

Police Major Sanai from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Ruay Samer Apartments near the Excite Discotheque on Pattaya Third Road to report on the suspected murder of a woman inside one of the rooms. Police went to room number 308 and found the decomposing body of Khun Narisara aged 27. She was known to live with her Husband Khun Apirak aged 31 who works in a Gay Bar inside Soi Pattayaland 3, otherwise known as Boyz Town. He is prime suspect for the murder as he has now disappeared from town and has not reported for work for the last two days. An insight into their lives was given by neighbors who mentioned that Khun Narisara was an attractive woman and would often attract the attention of other men. This may be a motive for the killing. Police are now hunting for Khun Apirak, the prime suspect in this murder case.

LATEST NEWS

Thursday 15th September 2005

Local Association announces that Pattaya’s water problems are a thing of the past. We have the details.

The Business and Tourism Association of Pattaya held a meeting at the Green park Resort in Naklua, chaired by Khun Tanaert. He had some very good news for association members who have voiced their concerns on the water supply problems and what the future holds. He announced that a pipeline project running from a Bangkok Reservoir to Bang Pla in Siracha which was due for completion by June 2007 will be completed by the end of October this year. This reservoir is already connected to the Maprachan Reservoir and as soon as the pipeline is complete, then Pattaya should have a year round supply of water regardless of the monsoon season. This is good news for hotels and tourist attractions who were concerned that problems would arise during the forthcoming high season. We now await confirmation of the completion of the pipeline and as soon as we have it we will bring the news to you here on Pattaya City News.
well it seems that something is happening that nobody knew about and will be finished 2 years earlier than planed, I assume these guys building it are being payed so how comes nobody mentioned this like a few months ago? ie millions of baht going out for the work and nobody knew about it?

Desi, can you provide any more info on the location of Dobler House; and it's general condition/amenities?

A web search yeiled nothing and a Pattaya holiday (on the cheap )... beckons at some point.

Cheers,

Alex

It's a small guesthouse with A/C, TV with cable, and a huge bathroom (no bathtub though) for 350 baht a night. No website, online reservations, internet, breakfast, or any other misc. crap that inflates the price.

I threw out their business card, so I'll try to give an idea of where it is. It's been about six months since I was there, so excuse the vagueness. If you are standing in front of the Apex, start walking towards Big C. Take a right into the first small side soi you see (I believe there is an overpriced internet cafe/Thai antique store right before you make the right). It will be either the second or third guesthouse on your left.

You'll be right in the heart of the action. None of the gals have heard of it, so you can always escape undetected.

Millions of Baht worth of damage as monsoon rains flood the streets, homes and businesses of Pattaya.

It was hard not to notice the severe monsoon rains which hit Pattaya on Wednesday Afternoon. In only two hours of rain, Pattaya was left underwater and in some areas the water level rose to nearly one foot. Severe flooding seen on Wednesday has not been seen here in Pattaya for some time and demonstrates the problems of drainage here in this ever-expanding city. Questions must now be asked regarding the infrastructure which clearly cannot cope with the rapid expansion of this city. Our camera crews were out and about at a number of the worst hit areas such as Soi Beokeow, the Sukumvit Road, the South Pattaya Road and Soi Potisan in Naklua. Construction sites are situated around the city and in many cases, half-built walls collapsed and subsidence of partially constructed buildings took place. Raw Sewage water now fills the streets of Pattaya and we spoke with a number of residents who expressed their anger towards the City Administration for not providing an adequate drainage system. Initial damage estimates of 10 million Baht have been mentioned however residents and business operators are now waiting for the waters to subside before the true extent of the damage is known.

Thanks for the post and pics Dog,

That helps me in deciding between a short trip to Pattaya, a slightly longer one to Phnom Penh, or a trip straight home to KK upon my return to Thailand early next week.

If you can find it, it'd be great Desi. And I don't know if you're yet aware that Air Asia is flying there (Phnom Penh)...now.

I priced a ticket for 3300 baht return (all taxes and extras included)....

Great price.

Well I lived in Pattaya for about 2 years and a half, had a great time 8) .
That was the late nineties though? Haven't been back since 1999, got stuck in the South , and NO, not with a pattaya babe, but they are wonderful toys to have a good time with 8)

Just remembered another negative in Pattaya. It was around 10am and I was taking money out of an ATM machine in front of the Family Mart on Soi Bukow (sp) across from the Sawasdee Hotel. Withdraw my cash and then some English guy, late 20s to early 30s, with a shaved head, tatoo, and t-shirt with a soccer team logo asks me if I speak English. I just shrug and give a confused smile. He then says,"Could you lend me 200 baht, mate?" I still look at him confused and he walks off. I encountered some really lower class English people in Pattaya. So be careful around any Englishman you meet in Pattaya. Trust only the ones that take you to a short time bar in a housing estate.
