    One Night in Chumphon.

This is my first bash at a travel thread, the pictures are straight from the camera WYSIWYG!!

Instead of a straight drive to Phuket from Bangkok. Mrs TP and I decided to break up the journey in Chumphon. Well not in town but on Sarai Beach. We found a small resort at the southern end of the beach.

They had two room styles all very close to the sea.

    1000 Baht

    650 Baht.

We fancied the 1000B room as it was right on the water and a couple of steps to the coffee shop.

The rooms were spotless and a good size, the basic UBC package was available in all of them.

    Good sized comfortable twin bed

    Wash basin.

    Shower

    And of course the toilet!!

As I said the room was right on the water, some snaps from the room.

    From inside

    looking south

    Looking North.

As we had an early start we opted just to stay in the resort and have dinner. Cheap and cheerful, the following was 850 baht including 6 large Singha and Ice.

As I said we had an early start in the morning so it was early to bed. We got up before the resort kitchen had opened and needed breakfast, there were a few places advertising "american breakfast" along the beach, but being a Brit that would not work.

As we were driving into Sarai I had noticed a new Novotel a couple of miles back towards Chumphun. So armed with my Accor card we set off to try the Buffet Breakfast there.

The hotel was brand new and features a lovely 9 hole golf course, I asked about room rates, 1750 Baht not including breakfast. Worth a try next trip...

    The lobby area.

The coffee shop, buffet was 420 Baht for two with the Accor Card.

    The main hotel block.

    The golf club house.

Having eaten well we set off on an uneventful drive to Phuket. I would recommend this area as an ideal mid-point on the Bangkok - Phuket run.

    Enjoy, TP

Very nice. The beaches south of Hua Hin are certainly getting developed at a rate of knots.

    good stuff. cheers.

    From TAT

This scenic and popular beach is about 20 kilometres from Chumphon by highways no.4119 and 4098. There are bus services from town to the beach. It is a large and curved beach and it is one of the favorites amongst Chumphon people for their relaxation. There are some accommodations and restaurants available along the beach.

You certainly have got that right, the last thing I expected to see down there was a Novotel!! It really would be a good place for a corporate gathering, nice grounds, golf etc.

Great pics, a friend of mine stayed in the town and liked it very much. He said the town was not so touristified,
wich could be a good thing :-) .
I am definitely going there after having seen your pics of the Nong Mai Sairi Beach, looked great!
    Thanks !
They say everywhere that the sandflies can be dealt with using coconut-oil, anyone have experience of that?
I usually dont have any trouble with them, then again, I don like to just lie around on the beach all day....

Thanks for the pics and info, TP. Err, why is one of the food plates half empty?
Good to go to Koh Tao from there.
