He's worded it wrongly, no such thing as a visa extension
He probably has extended his permission to stay

I did it a couple of years back

very similar experiences to JJ; in addition, we had one Israeli who stank of dirty sweat, so every now and then a waft of his odour came down to us, fukin disgusting

on the good side, I met a nice guy from Hawaii who stays in CM each year and we have stayed good friends, a beer or two in various bars etc

the touts all lie their heads off to make extra money, like the lack of hotel rooms in Pak Chong (plenty) and the need for cushions (supplied on our boat)

the trip is a bit long, the river is nice, it is a good experience overall

no need to repeat it though

I met two seperate people in LP who had crashed in the fast boats, one girl losing her property, the other getting everything totally soaked

dangerous way of travelling as there are lots of barely covered rocks

Anyone ever gone further down river from Luan Prabang?

I'd really like to do it but can't get any info.

Maybe just play it by ear.

I have a friend who went down the Mekong all the way to the delta.

He did it by kayak, as he is a nutter

there are villages all down the river; sometimes they set up little bars on the banks, just for the odd passing boat
