Jomtien Beach

Sitting on the palm lit beach of Jomtien with the warn breezes caressing our tired bodies off the Gulf of Siam after an amazing day of activity, a thought came to mind!
How am I going to survive with the ever increasing cost of England when I retire, a spine chilling thought after spending most of my life travelling the world without a care and enjoying what the many varied countries had to offer. Income as a carpenter was never a problem and work was plentiful and well paid, approaching the big 50, it dawned on me that to achieve a viable pension at retirement was simply impossible.I was in Thailand without a doubt one of the most exciting places I had travelled to in many a year, could I live here? No question about it, who in their right mind would not want to be in this amazing Country – The Kingdom of Thailand. The next question was how? The mind racing a full speed and beyond I said to my wife Nom who is Thai lets buy a villa here and rent it out, we searched North, South, East and West and finally came back to the place we started Jomtien Beach, why, because as much as we love the 24 hour hustle and bustle of Pattaya with it’s miles of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shopping facilities we needed a place to go “Home” to.

I think everyone who has visited Thailand has shared your thoughts at one time or other. Take your time, a year or two, and see if feelings change before committing your hard earned funds.

Good luck.

Don't wait too long mate!

The prices could explode in the coming years.

If you see something you like and can afford, particularly in one of the newer condo blocks go for it.

Just get good legal advice and read the maintenance fee contracts well.

You would have a fair greater chance, and that is rental investment and if you buy a nice house in a good location. Plenty of good deals at the moment and don't forget to bargain right down to the last baht.

Jomtein is an up and coming hub and don't be surprised to see it turn out just like Pattaya and in the next 10 years.

Have a look down around Bang Chang and Bang Saray also.

Lots of expats working in that area.

Hmm just had a few days enjoying the beach at jomtien. Great if you like plastic bags, jelly fish, razor shells, rope, dead fish and plenty of rubbish.

For living, I'd certainly choose Jomtien over Pattaya. I'm of the view that a condo purchase will prove profitable in the Pattaya area- the population growth should ensure that alone. But my view is not shared by all- in fact many are cynical- and bear in mind the political risk associated with this nation.

Anyway, one thought- a UK state pension will get you by in Jomtien- if that is your only nest egg other than your condo- but barely. Probably more suited to an Isaan domicile really.
