Chiang mai to Mai Sai on two wheels

If you can make a few days for your visa trip, or just want a few days touring, then this is a great way to do it.
We chose to go by bike as it was a good way to see more.
From chiang mai take the 107,out of chiang mai, once out of city the roads are pretty good just a few miles out an you are into the mountains.

After about an hour and a half we stopped for lunch at chiang dao, great place as a stop over or just a refreshment.

Carrying along the same route we by passed Fang, next time will check it out but a stop over can be made here.

Although on this trip we didn’t go to Doi Ankang ,but having been there with Mtd last year would recommend a stop over here the place is right in the mountains and on the Burma border.

This is a Chinese village and the views are really beautiful.

We then arrived at Tat Thong and decided to stay here for the night
This place is stunning ….Garden home

    view of garden home

The price was 500 bht per night per chalet, its clean well decorated with comfortable beds and a really welcomed hot hot shower.

From Ta Thong you can take a boat trip along the river kok to Chiangrai.

If you stay at kwans guest house then you can leave your bike or car overnight and come back the next day to carry on your journey.

The temple here looks over the flat plains and the views are just stunning ,the temple is under construction ,but you may wander inside and around at your leisure.

Each platform of this mountain has a statue so something to see

The next morning we took the only road out of Tat Thong, and began to climb further in to the mountains.

The next morning we took the only road out of Tat Thong, and began to climb further in to the mountains.
This was the best part of the journey wide sweeping roads fantastic scenery and NO traffic.

As time was against us we by passed Mai Salong, but this is another place for a stop over

So on to Mai Sai coming over the mountains you join the …….( The chiang mai/ mai sai normal mini van route)
An hour on this fairly busy road an You arrive in Mai Sai.

The fight againt drugs menace is a national cause

Imagine tesco's on a busy day

    Left Thailand right burma

we tried to go further than this but came upon the army checkpoint

    i love this next picture

I have never really liked Mai Sai, but staying over changed my mind, while there is not a lot to do the place has a strange charm.

Got a few pics of the club we went in !!!!!!!!!!

Nice pics and report, even if I've seen most of the places on my numerous visaruns up there.

If I've time for the next one I'll go with my "Wave 125i" and take the time to stop here and there. I'll have a look at the places you mentionned in the thread.
