My Low Cost Trip To Surin

I took the family to Surin to look at a rice farm that was for sale. I can tell that Surin can be a rip off if you are not careful If you are going there, i recommend that you just walk into the Surin Majestic Hotel. My friend booked a room there without asking on an internet site and paid 2000 baht for the same room. There is a local farang watering hole that will book hotels and train tickets for you, but they also tak on a healthy piece as well. I am okay with businesses making money, but if you are looking to cut costs, then follow my advice.

Here is a guy getting the same room as me for 2000 Baht. He showed me his bill.......

I paid 800 baht as a walk in.

From there, you can also see the public park. There is a track for joging. I went for about 30 minutes, but soon tired of the drunk farang men at the park yelling "you you"

Until you tell us how much you paid for the room, you've got nothing to gloat about.

They offer a few more freebies besides the 2 free bottles of water you get in your room! They have 3 PC's in the lobby with free internet connection and for those of you that pack a laptop, they have free wifi.

here I am feeding my addiction........

They have a fitness center. It was not much, but I used it after the 2000 calorie breakfast

They also have a bar next to the lobby. That is not included in the freebies I mentioned.

There are several way to get there - car, bus train and you can fly into Buriam - but only three days a week.

    Driving can be dangerous.......

    And amusing.......

Nice breakfast, shame about the bacon.

Thanks for this, especially the pics. I will be going up in November for the elephant roundup and I know the price escalates to arount ThB 2,000 per night for that one weekend. They only charge ThB 800 or so on the internet so why anyone pays ThB 2,000 off-peak is beyond me.

While in the city you can use a wide variety of transportaion. There are mini bus, motorcycle taxi, tak tuk, bus and my personal favorite - the sam lor. Once I raced a friend of mine in sam lors. I won the race, but he kept on going even after we arrived at our destination becasue he did not know how to tell the driver to stop in Thai!!

For dinner, I would suggest the Korean BBQ (nua yaang) by Big C.
You could feed 5 or 6 people for under 300 baht. It is quite tasty and the live entertainment is pretty good.

First they bring the hot coals.......

Then you grill the meat on top and put the veggies in the soup on the side.
