    The Fastest hike across Thailand

My friend and hiking partner is out to establish a record and attempt a fast hike/run/walk across Thailand's north.
    Aproximately 1150 kms.
He's an extreme athlete and I've hiked with him last summer in the Balkans (different thread I started a week ago )
He can hike through a lot of pain and advesity, so, it should be interesting following his endeavor.
    Here's the website:
    https://fastesthikeacrossthailand.wordpress.com/

I believe there's a FB page also but it's his girlfriend's and probably mostly in Thai.

If anyone is interested, Ray is a good writer and funny.
    (and extreme. )

Well it could only be attempted by a Farang, there's something in a Farang DNA that this goes back centuries of training in a European environment , look at how Farang in Europe have trugged through snow in - 30 on death marches, like Napoleons army in retreat from Moscow.

I believe Ray got the idea from the lead singer in the band (Thai): BodySlam.
He walked from the southern tip of Thailand (border of Malaysia) to the most northerly point, raising money for hospitals for the poor I believe.
My son said he turned around and went back when he got there.
I think he raised something like 30 million US dollars.
Anyway, yes, farangs like to do extreme shit.
But I think it doesn't matter the race, color or nationality, It's just something some people like to do. IMO.

I used to run "ultras" but don't think I'm capable anymore.
    Maybe ......................
    Ray is an inspiration anyway.

    All very good.

I read a good promotional piece a few years ago of 'Walking across Thailand in a day'. Or something like that. Walking from a beach to Burma at Thailand's thinnest part around Prachuap Khiri Khan.

    Edit.

    Here it is.

Walking across Thailand in half a day.

    He ran actually.

Good luck to your friend. Will he have much in the way of support along the way?

Edit: I've just looked at the blog entries. Seems he has some support.

Ray is a biker too (wrote that book: "The Hazards of bicycling in Thailand" ), and did the route on his bike first to decide his route.
His girlfriend (Thai) is supporting him with her car.
Ray is hurting at this point I believe.
But he's run/hiked through a lot of pain before.
Last summer he had food poisoning on our hike across the Balkans and wouldn't take a day off.

I'll never forget the day in the Lake District when I discovered our Melton Mowbray pork pie had gone off.

I'd been looking forward to it all morning.
