    World's Worst Airports Hub

...hardly news to those waiting at immigration for 4 hours...

Airport Insult: Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi lands on list of world’s worst airports

By Coconuts Bangkok Jun. 15, 2017

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport appeared on a recent list of the 10 worst airports in the world.
The new study, released Monday by airline customer compensation firm Airhelp, takes into consideration reviews from passengers regarding customer service, security, comfort, check-in, user experience, and quality of facilities at 76 airports around the world.

Suvarnabhumi ranked 9th out of the ten worst airports. Kuwait Airport was at the very bottom of the list, followed by London’s Gatwick, Manchester, New Jersey’s Newark, London’s Stansted, Edinburgh, Mumbai, Dubai, and Delhi.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Singapore’s Changi was rated as the best airport, followed by Munich, Hong Kong, Copenhagen’s Kastrup, Helsinki’s Vantaa, Cincinnati, Barcelona’s El Prat, Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez-Barajas, Auckland, and Frankfurt.

    Not surprising.
    Could be worse, I guess.

There is a totally disproportionate number of English airports mentioned as being amongst the worst airports. I suspect this is as authoritative as the claim that Marmite is a competitor for world's greatest food.

Manchester is up there with the worst of them for sure. They even have luggage trolleys that you have to pay for, a la feed Pound coins into a stupid machine that lets one go at a time...

-Just what you need after arriving on a long-haul flight. Cnuts.

That really winds me up as well. Was in Australia recently, Sydney airport is a cock up - transferring from International to domestic was such a hassle that I missed my connection. Finally get to Melbourne to be faced with the detestable pay for a trolley. Stupid, stupid policy.

I went through Melbourne airport at the beginning of the month and I was unimpressed with it - layout was pretty sad and departure lounges should have enough seating for the amount of people on the aircraft

I have been transiting Mauritius Airport for the last couple of years - transit is rather indian in its stupidity - you line up twice , once so some airline person can look at your boarding passes and once so an immigration person can look at your passport
multiple times it has taken an hour plus , and the last time I was very close to missing my flight

I change planes two or three times a year in Mumbai and Delhi.

Believe it or not, in 2017 they actually have a ledger in which they write down the name and passport number of transit passengers while you put your hand baggage through the x-Ray.

No Chinese airports on the list, guess they are not "hubs" either as they have done all they possibly can to make it onto this list!

Nor are Manchester, Cincinnati, Malta, Koltsovo or a handful of others on the esteemed list.
What might be considered a true major hub and what isn't could certainly be debated.

Consider the source, perspectives, and how language is used.

I reckon the older, "refurbished", Dubai terminal at 0230 hrs probably has to be the worst place in the world - 4,000 passengers waiting to embark, seating area for 1,000 tops with the shittiest cafeterias charging at rates higher than the fucking moon, overflowing toilets and an air-conditioning system as useful as a punkah-wallah in the Black Hole of Calcutta. Never again will I fly Emirates. Good airline with great cabin crew but not worth the Dubai experience.

Obviously noone's passed through Beijing in the last 12 months.

Fucking horrible staff, queues. Pretty sure they do it deliberately.

Beijing no worse than Shanghai, if you want a truly shitty airport experience in China Guangzhou takes some beating!

No problem. Take the chauffeur driven limo from your home, let the "maid in waiting" take care of the bags and check-in, the buggy to the first class lounge and gate onto the front of the plane 5 minutes before take off, once the cattle have been "loaded".

    All the same, ask 'arry.

I would suggest Trat airport as one of the most accommodating.

yes, those middle of the night connections in dubai or abu dhabi are the stuff of nightmares, what with the crowding, the poor facilities and the staffing demographic.

these days we fly on the european airlines, from manchester, with a connection in either london, amsterdam or frankfurt. this ensures a pleasanter changeover, although all airports these days are awful places to spend any time in, and an uninterrupted night.

british airways were fine until a couple of years ago when they introduced some brutal cost cuttings to their services, especially on the asian long haul routes, where the planes are old and scruffy, like most of the passengers on those routes these days.

i think they save their best for the atlantic routes.

lufthansa was a pleasant surprise this year, a cheap fare, a brand new A380, and frankfurt airport was clean, modern, with decent facilities, organised security with no queues and both noisy chink and swarthy arab free. bingo!

it does the job, and quite efficiently too.

arrive by train right into the airport, pre purchase a security fastlane pass or whatever they call it for 3.50, and passage through to airside is fast and mostly painless. the security is incredibly no nonsense and thorough.

if there's a long wait, then use airmiles or purchase a lounge pass to separate yourself from the ever present depressing ugly dross that one invariably finds oneself amongst at britains provincial airports.

it is a grim place to arrive at though, having to pay for a luggage trolley and the miserable taxi pick up area hit home how unwelcoming the uk can be at times.
