My best departure ever was from Manchester to Bangkok on a slate gray, rainy October morning.

Teed up perfectly by a National Express coach journey to the airport via Stoke.

For me it is a toss up between Mumbai and Abu Dhabi. Mumbai, as Cyrille noted is painfully bureaucratic. I'm usually on Jet Airways as the timings work for me- for such a crappy airport the airline itself is pretty solid. Abu Dhabi is always horribly crowded and there are not enough basic facilities for such large amounts of people. Shame as Ethiad is one of my favorite airlines. Giving Sri Lanken a go in April and looking forward to see how it compares. Heathrow can be horrendous is you arrive in the early evening in my experience. Bag collection resembles a dungeon and I don't like being yelled at by jobsworths after 15 + hours of travel.

I'll be on 'em in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know.

-Just what you need after arriving on a long-haul flight. Cnuts.
The wait when you land is what gets me. Sat on the plane for 10-15 minutes while they fanny about opening the doors.

    Were you not expecting us?!?!?!?

As has been mentioned above, it's pretty comfortable flying from Manchester, but less so arriving.
