    The Grand Palace in Mourning

Nearly a year on since the King of Siam passed away and the Grand palace is still as busy as ever with people from around the world paying their respects.

There are two entrances at the moment for visitors, one for tourists wishing to view the Grand Palace and a separate entrance which is just as busy by the riverside for people wearing black and paying respects and signing the book of condolence.

Be prepared for a long wait to gain entrance at the moment. We couldn't wait all day to enter as the children were melting and needed to cool off in the hotel pool.

Here's a few pics from our day trip....

A quick ride up the river on a long tail boat after breakfast at the Siam Riverside Hotel

Plenty of visible security around these parts..

Plenty of sellers of black clothing..

Kids are starting to melt in the crowds, time for a sharp exit to an airconditioned small eatery..

Nice grub and opposite the Palace..

Time for a quick white knuckle ride on a Tuk Tuk back to the hotel

I think this was her 2nd or 3rd visit? She heard a news report that one woman had made the visit 91 times. That last visit was an all day event for her and a girlfriend. Her intentions are to visit one more time. She’ll leave at 4 to 5 in the morning to get in line because of the crowds (as a lot of Thai’s do).

She arrived late. Almost a 13 hour wait time yesterday. Whatshername told me when they left the area at about 1:00am there were Thai’s lining up (ID’s checked and x-rayed) for the 5:00am opening today.

Nice to be paying respect this next month by being there, yet most everyone I know couldn't be bothered as crowds in Bangkok will be incredible.Local Wats of every description will be honouring for 3-4 days in their own right.
