Yeah it was extremely peaceful and quiet. Saw small groups of people drinking and laughing but no loud obnoxious music.

That's excellent news but with the very much increased numbers as represented by the burgeoning Asian demographic and the infestation by the Chinese, one wonders where all the shit and piss is going?

As far as I am aware there was no sewage farm development on the island, and previously they were reliant on cesspits or simply the draining of effluent into the sea as a policy.

Contrary to Teakdoor consensus Koh Samed has not quite gone to the dogs, just yet..

The Ban Phe debarkation point for the Island is however a shit hole.

The place to purchase ones white knuckle ride to the island has a heavy doggie presence, maybe they dream to be on the Isle of Dogs..

This mut is guarding the ticket touts..

This mut is guarding the speed boat fuel..

This mut is keeping an eye on the 3baht a piss pot..

This mut is keeping it's boggy eyes on the idle litter patrol..

And this mut is making sure that Somchai and his gang of shipwrights do a decent repair job on the 60baht slow boat..

No cheap charlieing for us on this trip...

Meet Tommy the Thai panda, he gets about...

Speed boat direct to the beach in front of our resort, had to get our feet wet and carry our bags across the beach to check in.

Family room with four beds for 1600baht a night again, seems to be the going rate on our trip all over Thailand..

Checkpoint Somchai on the main drag making sure all tourists pay the entrance fee to the national park, you have to show your receipt whenever you pass.

I paid the 240baht fee just as my first foot hit the surf.
Did think it was a "trip" having a soldier in full combat gear approach me for a park entrance fee the moment we got off the boat.

More dog pics are needed because this is the Isle of Dogs that has apparently gone to the dogs...

Gate crashed Johny and Jammys(she was Jammy) wedding one night, nearly got set alight by fireshow nutters another then found a paradise on the west side of the island, had a full moon party that ended at 9pm coz the kids were tired but we all got glow painted up,some mega body surfing and not forgetting a day in a hippy commune.

Had to have a mellow one as it was getting hard on the sauce every night with the two other families we met up with from home, Cars2 with a few snacks..

    Hippy in a hammock

    Check out the hand..

It's a full moon and the glow paint is flowing..

This little hovel was ok for a night..

Good Point AO, I find Agoda and Hotel booking. com to always be way overpriced. They lure you in with that "Save 40%" and that "there are 8 people current looking" stuff. The place we stayed at on Koh Samed was fairly expensive on Agoda. Wife called direct and got price nearly 850 bht a night cheaper.

My wife and I seem to have about the same threshold on hotel costs. On Islands tops would be 2000 bht a night and that seems to get us a clean place with a shower and a few creature comforts. however, at this juncture in my life I will not stay in a shithole to save a few bucks.

I remember back in 2004 I stayed at Koh Phangan with some friends. We stayed in some shacks right on the beach. 500 bht a night. No running water, squat toilet, piss and shit ran out back into a hole in the ground. Mattress was filthy. I slept in a hammock on the beach and bailed out the next morning to a better place. Even dry camping in the US is far more cleaner and sanitary than that. As I rode around on Koh Samed there were still tons of those little shacks everywhere and to your point were likely expensive and filthy.

what resort did you stay at Chitty?

^He said it back a few pages.

Nice pics, Chitty. I've never been to Samet and don't really care to. I feel there are better islands out there like Koh Chang, Koh Tao, etc.. I realize it is convenient as it is so close to BKK. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

This one used to chase the fish in the shallow surf every morning..
