Parts of the Island are like Chinese Butlins.

Had an international football match in the soi last night.
England/Thailand vs Taiwan/ China.
Loads of spectators, of course we won.
Very hot and sunny on the island at the moment whereas the rest of Thailand seems to be getting funtuk.

Back in the day I really liked to escape to Samet, both alone and with the family. But about 15 years ago the 800 baht beach front bungalows went to 2000 just by putting in a crappy air conditioner. Everything is now way overpriced.

Heading down to Koh Chang for 4 nights and will pay the same price for the Centara Tropicana that I would pay for an air con shack with linoleum on the floor and a large towel for a bed cover. An hour and a half longer drive and much more bang for the buck imho.

Do have fun though, at least you are beachfront..

I hate people who drone on and and about how wonderful such and such a place was 20 years ago!! If I or you or a normal person is enjoying it then fuckem!! Live in the past, remember when you were young and sort of handsome. But leave us alone!! If i find it comfy, nice beach, good weather and it doesn't cost a fortune - that's my thing.

Some people save for years to go somewhere special and exotic. They can't just jump in their car and drive for an hour!! And if they don't like it, go somewhere else.

It takes months of planning. Looking forward to the pics!!

Good Post Patsy, I always wonder why people post that back in the 70's and 80's it was so much better. I am not sure I would have liked it here back then. I do know I have enjoyed touring around SE Asia since 2000. It is easier, more convenient and lots more technology to enjoy. Also you just have to know where to find those pristine beaches and when to go. My wife knows where to go and we have an awesome time every place. Of course you make it what it is.
