IMHO Air Asia is average it is certainly better than virgin, I have had a few disasters with them, but of the budget airlines scoot and tiger were my airlines of choice mainly due to the stopover which is Singapore and not bloody K.L. which is a cesspit, all the money they spent on the new terminal was a waste. I may be going to Perth, for 3 weeks, from late July through August. What airline would you recommend ?

It seems all the connections are crap, with long layovers.

I was debating on taking AA between Bangkok and Jakarta (or Bali), overnighting there, and then on to Perth. And then return the same way.

Could fly to KLCC 2 airport and overnight at the inhouse hotel for 2000 baht then fly Perth the next day.

Could fly to Bali overnight there then fly Perth the next day. Why rush, spend a few days hanging out.

If ya don't want to do that pay the wedge and fly return on Thai airways. They have great deals off season. Under 700 buks AUD return.

My mate uses them all the time.

I prefer the slow easy route myself.

Come on Tops it by far depends on where you live. For so many DM is more convenient. We have two airports lets use them wisely. Where you live Swampy is better where I live no...

IMHO I can navigate the website and book flights easily on AA, Nok, and Thai Lion. No luggage means I or we are home in less than 15 minutes upon a domestic flights arrival.

Just a word on that. Flying no booked luggage out The Don is a dream. Straight thru the gates scan the luggage and into the lounge.

Things have changed though regards booked luggage and it's a total pain in the arse.

One must now print out a luggage tag on one of their machines and then join the line again to proceed to check in where the staff check ya ticket and attach the luggage tag.

This little brain child has just increased the need for more staff to help travellers actually print out the baggage tag.

Will see how long this lasts. Also AA have been threatening to start weighing carry on luggage.

That would defiantly be fun watching the Thai travellers twisting off over excess luggage charges.

Thai don't do rules all that good plus the Back Packers may get a shock.

Good flight yesterday to Hat Yai on time new A320 neo very clean cabin comfortable seats.They didn't bother to check bag weights most people luggage ended up in the cabin.

Bought a ticket on AA on one of their sales. Taxes only and credit card charge 190 baht.

Actually, I've flown all over Thailand to many destinations for 190 baht or around that.

AA are certainly the go if flying short haul frequently and have their system dialled in.

Most people can work it out that when paying small amounts of money on a Budget carrier it's a tad silly to complain about not getting a sarnie , free water and a seat with a large leg space is simply pissing into the wind.

AO I don't think anyone's saying that if you live 15 minutes from Don Muang then Don Muang is not the best place to get an airplane.

Let's just be glad that Tops has finally worked out the best place to fly from if you live 15 minutes from suwannapoom.

I've flown both routes to CNX about half a dozen times each over the last four years on trips to and from the Arabian Gulf.

I now fly BKK air as the connection at swampy makes the extra money worth paying. Also the price difference has been eroded over those four years, and as ENT says, the whole flight experience is superior.

The main deciding factor though is whichever airport is easier for you.

Just had a trip on BKK Air a few days ago. A great trip as normal- that lounge takes the edge of waiting at Swampy. Food was Masaman gai with a drinkable couple of glasses of red wine. Mandalay is also fast becoming a nice little airport with decent dining options and a lounge. Immigration also seems smoother a less chaotic these days.

He was handed a box containing 2 bananas, two oranges, an apple and a cup of water, none of it certified kosher.

They tried to shush him up, but he was having none of that, and ordered a replacement vegetarian meal with a glass of red wine, or else he'd report the offence.

The trolley dollies returned tout de suite with a replacement vegetarian meal and asked him to hand back the box of fruit, which he refused to do.....retained as evidence.

Upshot,...my Israeli friend got an acceptable vegetarian meal, a couple of glasses of wine on demand and a box of fruit, to take home.
He also registered a complaint against BkkAir for such foul behaviour.

Win for the Israeli, lose for the raghead caterers, on all counts.

He might now get a free flight or two,...he's not a vindictive man.

Seems to be that within Thailand AA do not check the weight of carry on.

I work it out that once one reaches departure gates it would be way to time consuming to start checking and then collecting money.

The plane must depart on time so gate check seems too hard as they must process everyone once they start.

I do wonder why they are so lax checking carry on within Thailand simply because it would not be that hard to do and it would be a large money spinner.

Some travellers really take the piss with their carry on especially Backpackers.

I took a late night flight to India out of Don where the officials decended at the gate and proceeded to unload a heap of Indians from their Baht. That was funny to watch.

Last month in Kl they were checking carry on so they do do it but it seems to be at the larger Airports.

Last year, the AA agents in MNL airport didn't check the weight of carry-ons, and some passengers were a bit overboard - had a small wheelie case, a large-ish backpack plus a handbag/shoulder bag. I followed the rules & just had a 6+ kg backpack & shoulder bag. The AA agents on my return flight from Yangon were strict & enforced the carry on rules.

This year, travelled AA again, MNL-Taipei, agents on both sides were strict with the carry on rules. Lots of ppl had too many carry ons & were asked to check in (and pay) the fees.

All my flights w/ AA have been good, no gripes here.
