Looking good, mate.
On Wednesday morning, the CJs took us to the local "smugglers" market.
I've lived in Thailand for 14 years now and have never seen its like. From bear traps, to barbed wire, cloth sold in bolts, to every manner of creature .... or parts of creatures.
What happens is this...on Wednesdays the Laos are allowed to cross over to the Thai side of the Mekong to visit the market. I could spend the day just watching the boats trying to dock against the flow of the river.

Usual fare....tables of insects...

Then one I'd never seen, buffalo skin to eat....

blimey csff...after seeing those bats you must be dying for a burger even more than on the other 364 days.
thinking of prey with minute brains communicating at frequencies that make no sense to us though...where has chico been lately?

So we set off and it's part of a restaurant called Barrios where Middle Eastern fare is the base of the menu...and believe it or not a kebab sounded better than a burger..
We started off with the calamari, perfectly cooked.

Then with a sampler platter of salad, kebab meat and pita bread...

lunched on crisp salad, jamon serrano and rioja courtesy of rimping promenada. much improved rockmelon from the local market.
this is a major part of why we chose chiang mai.
good to know there are also bats within easy reach of course.
for when nothing else will quite hit the spot.
How does one prepare a bat for dining?
(Spectacular thread Topps! Top of the line trip you're having)
Nice thread CSFFAN. I've always wanted to visit the opium museum if I ever found myself in the golden triangle area.
Thanks for taking the time to post a few pics, cheers.
10 years up here and I've still not visited it.
I must make the effort one day.
:chitown:
Well best to get cracken then crackerjack. It would make knockout thread. Good luck with it. You could get more golden cabbages for the effort.
Peace out, the fish.
Mrs. CJ said she'd take the hair off and then cook it and eat it.Quote:

There are two, Hall of Opium and Opium House. Hall of Opium is more of a waxworks display and, being a government-owned site, practices pretty hefty double-pricing, 300 baht for foreigners, 50 for Thai. Opium house is 50 baht for all. Samples of the product available for a quick drive up into the hills :)
I have enjoyed the countryside / water / street scenes pics.
Well done.
Thanks, it was a pleasure.Quote:
