Tourist vs Traveler - what's the difference

    .
Taoist philosopher Lao Tzu said, "A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving."

Ahh ... a confessing tourist ... focused on the destination, not the journey.*

... and thankfully, my kids haven't learnt that phrase ... yet.

For me ... it's sort of shagging a beautiful woman ... 'arriving' is important ... but the 'journey' is the best bit.

    * In jest of course, Jeff, I know you believe the journey is more important.

BTW, in the OP ... my bad ... it is, of course, 'travellers' ... despite what the spell-checker indicates ...
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Seems to me a "tourist" is someone on a tour and a traveller is someone going somewhere.
A tourist on a tour does not necessarily have to have a fixed itinerary and a traveller does not necessarily have to have a fixed destination.

A holiday maker is someone on holiday.

If the grammar police want a real howler, how about touristing as a noun?
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

A traveller is when you "crack one" while riding in a bus/train/plane. All for no apparent reason...

Surely this must be a misquote. Lao Tzu using the term: "good" while understanding at the deep essence and permeation of all things, good & bad cease to exist and the only constant is change(?)

At any rate,...back in the modern age:

"An undependable person with zero ability to handle responsibility has no fixed plans on holiday nor is intent upon arriving at his destination."

Bob takes a 2 vaca. away from his cubicle.
Arrives in Tahiti over the first weekend.

    ----------6 months later----------

Office Zombie: "What the fuck Bob?...we didn't think you were ever coming back."

Bob: "Who's sitting at my desk? You didn't save my position for me?"

A tourist is smiling as he or she gets on the plane, and a traveler looks like a 'dead man walking" to the execution chamber.

There are 2 kinds of people; those who think flying is glamorous and cool and those who have done it too much.

What makes the difference is where they go next.

A tourist go back to his usual place of residence.

A traveler has some place he left long time ago and where he may go back sometime in the future but it is definitively not where he's going in the foreseeable future.
The things we regret most is the things we didn't do
