And here I thought this thread was going to be about those back country bars down dark roads where you swat the insects away as you drink your Leo.

    Indeed.

One with a shagging pad would be better.

    Or one that sells cornettos.

That was my first thought. They look pretty cool but it just seems a shame they have to hack-up such a classic.

    Really like this one though:

I don't necessarily hang out at trendy places but just from observation, the trend for these seems to have peaked and is on the down.

These pop up Combis seem to be all over Bangkok these days together with the food vans.

Brilliant idea, the combis really take the cake though.

I was at Bitec yesty and they had one of those Seppo Streamliner thingos fully decked out as a bar. Incredible it was.

Thais are experts in renos on vehicles, they really do a top first class job.

    They excel in Vespa Renos.

The "Bug" is the VW beetle.

The VW van was affectionately known as "The Bully".

I seppo I'll have to see if they have them in Laos. Looks doable. I wonder how much they cost. May make an enterprising venture if one has the capital.

I'll keep my fish eye open when I get there. Last I went we met a guy with an icecream scooter thing hanging out near a local temple. As I recall he was giving me the eye as well. Kinda strange I thought, I think he was trying to be friendly is all.

I could see the mobile bar as doing well if you parked it in the right spot. The thing is where to park that is not going to cause you trouble. Or have the bib on your back as well as the locals.

Jeez. A basic frame and a fiberglass shell.

    Will probably cost 500 Kip.

Some fake JWB from Cambodia and you're good to go.

They seemed to have had many local names.

VW Combi or Combi Van ... or just simply 'a Combi' and everyone knew what you were referring to ... around these parts.

Anyone know what the Thais called them?
Or, if there had any penetration into the Thai Market when they were being sold new?

Because of the availability of them, perhaps?

Good to see them being used for no matter what purpose. It's always nice to see something old and built to last, and also not something that's restored to all it's glory only to end up being hidden away permanently in the owners garage.
