    Cool Bangkok Hotel Recommendations

Looking for some hotel ideas. My once encyclopedic knowledge of Bangkok, alas, has faded and the years have surely shifted the landscape there.

    Here's the scoop:

Lived and worked (if you were on Ajarnforum during that time I'm that Matthew) in Thailand from 2005 to 2011. Haven't been back since 2012.

We'll be staying in BKK Sunday, April 2-6 (Sunday night to Thursday) before driving down south to the wife's homestead through Songkran.

The BKK itinerary is pretty simple:

    • See a bunch of friends here and there, and revisit some old haunts
    • Go pay respects to the king at the grand palace (anybody done this? how long did you stand/sit/wait to get in and out?

So, here's what I'm looking for in a hotel:

    - NOT FANCY..and..NOT BACKPACKER BULLSHIT
    - Near enough to the skytrain/subway but no need to be right in the shit
    - Not too much more than 1000 baht/night?

Is this still a thing? My mind is too busy and full to remember all the places I used to like in this kind of zone, but I'm beginning to recollect as I surf around.

    What say you, Teakers?

Got any tips? Ask any questions you like if I haven't provided enough info and you're interested in chatting.

Try the hotels.com etc though 1,000 baht don't expect much.

Nana is around 1,500 baht now, though it has a wonderful history, so the welsh geezer told us.

go on Agoda or Booking.com and you can filter the results to suit your needs.

On that budget you will probably be in Huay Kwang listening to Shrewed Punters headboard bangin away all night

    Pas Cher Hotel De Bangkok

I use this place normally. Close to BTS (Saphin Taksin) and Charoen Krung. Clean, friendly, has a list and a small pool. Rooms are a bit compact (small) but are fine. Decent bathrooms with shower.

It does seem like 1000 baht is pushing it in 2017.

Just looked on Booking.com and got from 4,400 thb up to 5,220 thb (including all taxes) for those dates depending on size of room.

That is for the whole stay not just one night and includes breakfast. I have never had the breakfast so can't comment on it.

You can get a decent room in the Tai Pan (Suk Soi 23) for 1420.

It's five minutes walk from Cowboy, Terminal 21, BTS and Metro. Plenty of eateries on that street too.

    Hope Land Executive Residence

The website rates are usually less than half that on agoda.

There's 2 wings to there, the nice rooms which are for serviced guests and the shit rooms with no view. A friend stayed there when they dropped the price to 1900 baht a night. It wasnt such a bargain when he saw the room, however the pool is nice

I normally pay about 1500 for a room when I'm there (they have offers on quite regularly) and you've got the pool and a sauna for that price too.

About 5 or 6 years ago I'm pretty sure they didn't offer anything else apart from the serviced Apts cos that was always where I ended up.

TBH ... the OP needs to also tell us what he needs in a hotel.

EG ... parking is a big issue in Bangkok ... are you driving ... because it does vary greatly and an important consideration.

    Do you need Breakie?

    Gym? Decent or half-assed?

    Pool?

matt- i think you need to get up to the 1500 level to get a the kind of room you're looking for.

there are lots of places and if you're just staying 4 nights, it might not matter more than a bed and shower. but if you have a bit of energy to get taxis and not be near the skytrain, airbnb has good places available (better rooms, great views high up, but maybe a bit out of the way where you can just call a taxi).

more conveniently located rooms in that price range would be ok to crash, but not much in terms of amenities.

we were in bkk last year and stayed at an airbnb place near on nut. called taxis to come pick up us...which although a bit annoying, made up for with their pool, quiet neighbors, and apartment feel to it.
