A week on Bangtao beach Phuket.

Had a very nice week at the Sunwing resort at Bangtao beach phuket.
I can highly recommend this as a place for a family getaway, although it is quite isolated.
If you're not interested in bars and what have you it's very nice.
the rooms are spacious (4 of us in the room and not at all crowded, with a nice balcony and a kitchenette. (and of all the things, the only bit of civilisation for miles around was a texsco lotus and Mcdonalds 5 minutes and 100 barts away by taxi, so we saved a fortune on food buying salads and cold cuts and tins of tuna and bread.
Surprising how cheap things generally are compared to China and the missus was blown away by how nice and polite everyone was.
The resort restaurant is right on the beach and VERY average but not too pricey and they do actually offer decent portioned kids meals free. 1 with every adult meal. (my 9 year old boy now loves lasagna). Our family of four ate well for around 500 barts. They get you on the drinks but didn't seem to mind us bring our own juice and beers and were happy to provide glasses.
The airport pickup and dropoff went well, the expected ripoff didn't materialize.
The kids loved it. 4 pools and right on the beach. The exercise i got walking on the beach and splashing in the surf made me feel 100% fitter and healthier, absolutely awesome.
Spent much of the time sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool reading a book from the complimentary library.
Bangtao beach is fantastic, especially good for the kids surfing and boogie boarding, and the weather was brilliant. A couple of showers and overcast days were not an issue and it was pleasantly mild compared to how hot it's been here.
We took one day trip to Phi Phi for snorkling and lunch but apart from that just stayed around the hotel.
The only gripe I would have about the hotel is that they charge for in room wifi, 100 barts and hour, but if you REALLY need to go online while on holiday with the family. (and I did a couple of times, confirming travel arrangements and what have you.) you can go to the lobby where they have free wifi.
I'm glad we left when we did. The night before we left a big group of Chinese booked in and at 6.30 or so in the morning I was out on the balcony enjoying a coffee when I hear that throat hacking sound and turned just in time to see one hoik a loogie of the balcony. Horrible kunts they are.

Anyway here are a couple of pics.

Tragic that they've built all the crap on that beach and wiped out the turtles that used to nest there.

The authorities didn't steal your children, and then force you to buy them back at inflated rates?

    That's surprising.

I managed to squeeze in by the missus, that's actually a huge bed, and the sofa the kids are sitting on has a roll out section underneath so take the cushions off and you have 2 full size single beds.

What are you looking for? Because I'm pretty sure Phuket has everything from Nightlife and restaurants to secluded beaches.

This is the new world of travel and tourism - unfortunately wherever you go, they - the locust Chinese - will be there too.

About 30-50% are able to behave somewhat decently. The rest are beyond hope - either rich and self entitled, or poor bumfuck peasants, and self entitled.

I cuss the fuckers out if they behave poorly (in Mandarin). I tell them they've left the farm (China), and they need to up their game - manners and behaviour. Works reasonably well. Gotta shame them, make them lose face.

Alternative: choose destinations with minimal amounts of Chinese tourists.

Actually the place was pleasantly free of them until the morning we were actually leaving.
Pretty much all Russians and, aussies and various scandis. Families with kids for the most part.
The Chinese missus was amazed at how polite, quiet and generally civilised everyone was and aghast at the peasant behaviour of her countrymen in contrast.
It was a good lesson for her.

Spent a few minutes teaching my son how to spot rips and explaining how he should avoid swimming in them.
If you don't swim in them you won't get stuck in them.

Me brother Skyped me yesterday, he was staying for a few days in Portland, he was right down the end, on the beech, lovely view, in a 'pod' - brand new and comfy for 70 squids per night. He was on his way to having a morning fry up then a walk around the beach, upto the lighthouse, then around the harbour - you might wanna consider that, Nige - perfect for painting.

Phuket used to be great, and Cujo's familly holiday looked like it hit the spot well. Personally, I can't stand the taxis, the risk of violence and harm if you go away from your hotel, etc. My last beach holiday I went to Sri Lanka, and it was nicer than anywhere I've been in Thailand.

But, Cujo enjoyed his trip, so did the family, worked for him, so job done.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

    You're shitting me right?
This is a proper tropical beach where you can take a dip anytime day or night in the Andaman sea.

Knock back a couple of coldies till late then go for a dip before bed.

That WAS a proper beach holiday, not that insipid pommy sunlight and cold water and evening chill.
Never donned anything warmer than a t shirt and shorts no matter what the hour.
Sun sand and surf all the way.

    ???

Most Thai beaches look similar. I must've been to 10+ Thai beaches that look very much like that...
