Fly business class and you get the car chucked in for free. Simple.

Heathrow Taxis make the typical Thai Somchai taxi driver seem like a saint. They are complete robbing bastards in London.

Do you need car service? The Heathrow Express takes around 15 minutes to get to Paddington for around 20 far cheaper than taxis.

It's not called Thiefrow for nothing on my Monday forays I escape by tube as far as Northfiedls about 5mins have a nice meal and drive.

If hiring there is a London congestion tax like Singapore, can pay online via machines ,shops etc, virtually undodgeable without Arabic CD plates
I used to have a job at a calendar factory.
    I got the sack because
I took a couple of days off.

Or pre =order or buy an
    "Oyster"
This is a contactless payment card )fiver deposit)
You then load up to 250 and use it when you need on London rail, tube Emirates, half fares on non tourist ferries etc

Frm Monday your cash is no longer good on the Clapham omnibus its got to be Oyster or other contactless payment card Amex etc

NB non UK issued contatcless payment cards from Oz wont work yet
Aside from paying much less it saves having to purchase individual rides

There is a daily cap ,no odea of fares as I only use it Heathrow Wallington

Oyster cards are sold at Heathrow and most manned tube stations ,London Visitor centre at Victoria and a few other places see
    https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/link/sso/0001.do

As others say with traffic speed if gheadin to west or Central London Heathrow Express
If going to Wales,Cornwall or even Midlands theres a link to Reading train station.

To Exester and south coast airlink to Woking Rail is much quicker as your headin out of the city in the right direction

To other London Airports my tips
Gatwick,Luton or Stansted coach via M25
Southend or London City in Docklands Tube cnange S Ken or Kings Crss via Liverpool Street

Totally wrong!,more of a comical post Pseudo.

Any legit Taxi at Heathrow will be a licensed London Taxi, any other car service will/or should be prearranged private hire.

The airport is patrolled by Met Police who do a far better job than any two bob Thai bobby could dream of.

Future London cabbies are vetted before they can even begin the knowledge process.

In Thailand some taxi drivers don't even have a valid driving license!

Admittedly London Taxis are not cheap but you are likely to be taken to your chosen destination by the shortish route,or given the option of a faster but more expensive route.

Its cheaper than that mate,by a long way.

If you are travelling light and on your todd the train services are pretty good.

A lot of gear or a family then you stump up for a cab.

Prebook private hire will slash the London cabbie rate in half but you still take your chances with traffic on the magic roundabout.

    That's the 25 for the yanks M25!

Not sure I understand your post - do you mean the car service is cheaper or are you thinking the Heathrow Express is cheaper? Should you mean the Heathrow Express then you are well wrong.

I had a meeting in Slough last time I was in the UK. I arrived and jumped into a black cab

"No meter. Fixed fair 50 Quid". Went to the next one, same story.

    They are robbing bastards.

So now when flying to Heathrow I fly with carriers that chuck in 100 miles of chauffeur driven car as well.

I find that hard to believe, sounds as if you jumped into a rogue minicab running a second hand black cab.

Last time I took a taxi from Heathrow to my house (not far away but 45 quid) the guy got well pissed off when he heard my destination.

Stopped several times along the rank to bitch to the other drivers that he had waited all that time and only got a short fare. I chuckled inside.

This kind of nonsense is all too common, the same having happened to me several years ago just because I was going to a seminar at one of the airport hotels. Since then I have learned from other taxi drivers if that happens the cabbie is allowed to go to the front of the queue when he returns to the airport stand. Shows what pigs black cab drivers are. Glad you were able to laugh at him idiot that he was (and probably still is).

No doubt - all black cabs are metered. There are some notorious fraudsters running cab scams at Heathrow and you don't have to look far to see them.

As you step outside of terminal 3, the official taxi rank, and a almost brand new black cab. A few of them all in a line. It was about 6.20am though.

I have lived in London 33 years and have yet to come across an un-metered black cab, whether it was new or not is neither here no there. As the other poster said you have been had. Shame you have such difficulty accepting that.

    Sorry confusion on my part.

I was thinking back to the time I took a train from Gravesend to Heathrow.
About 14 quid( almost a year back,so expect its a bit dearer now ) network southeast change at London bridge to underground.

Stop sending me PMs about this, bellend. I do not give a flying toss what you think. It had a meter, he refused to turn it on, and said "50 quid". It was a new black cab, and the one behind said exactly the same thing.

It was December, snowing, flight from HK landed at 5.35am, and I was in the taxi rank, witht he big yellow sign pointing to it, next to a smoking section. It was legit. I do not "think I am clever" - i know I was had, but you were not there freezing your arse off, I was. So piss of.

I read it that the driver didn't want to use his meter not that he didn't have one.

Are you sure 'notorious' is the right word? I've never heard of fraudster taxi drivers being a major problem outside UK airports.

Exactly Fozzy. Just had another more insulting PM from this ronin character. No idea why? Wonder what his old username was - Looking at the criminal records page, DrAndy was jailed in the same month as this one was created (Just sayin' Edit.... but not the Dr. The Doc had a brain between his ears, unlike this chap) but the tone reminds me of GuyinTHailand ...

It had a meter, but he refused to use it, saying Fixed Fair 50 quid.
You never said that in your original post and if there was a meter he should have used it or you should have insisted he used - common knowledge for any traveler who bothers to look things up.

Stop sending me PMs about this, bellend. I do not give a flying toss what you think. It had a meter, he refused to turn it on, and said "50 quid". It was a new black cab, and the one behind said exactly the same thing.
I only sent you one PM and another because of your ill-mannered retort and it may have appeared to be a new black cab but don't you know they can be purchased second hand and re-sprayed. Again if there was meter you should have insisted on its use!

It was December, snowing, flight from HK landed at 5.35am, and I was in the taxi rank, witht he big yellow sign pointing to it, next to a smoking section. It was legit. I do not "think I am clever" - i know I was had, but you were not there freezing your arse off, I was. So piss of.
Your ill-mannered retort shows just how thick you are, my guess is you are one of those dorks who spends all his time in some office thinking himself oh-so clever when the reality is you haven't got a clue what goes on in the real world - no wonder the country is such a mess.
