Songkran 2014- Sawasdee Pee Mai and Happy New Year everyone!

A pretty quiet Songkran for me this year, mostly playing with my kids in our quiet neighborhood-

Did make it down to Sukhumvit yesterday to meet up with a couple "Bangkok Weekend Warriors" to catch a reply of the MotoGP at Mulligans and enjoy the Songkran shenannigans on Sukhumvit Soi 11

It was a fun ride down to Sukhumvit and I arrived well soaked!

I still don't know what all the fuss is about regarding riding during Songkran. Sure, people chuck buckets of water at you, but you can always see the "play zones" well before you reach them, so plenty of time to slow down and brace yourself for a good soaking. I realize that as the day wears on there are more and more drink drivers on the roads and that is certainly something one needs to be aware of!

    Awesome race!!!

Riding down Sukhumvit Soi 11 later in the evening we were again doused many times, but all in good fun. I love Songkran!!!

    Happy New Year everyone!

Not seen one person chucking water, stayed in. But went to Trat Sunday, no water stupidity there either, although a day early. Glad it's over again for another year, unless you go to Prapradeang where they have it a week late!

Poor Satonic- soaked there and back- I warned ya dude! Riding to Korat during Songkran is miserable!

As for the haters, it takes a special kind of miserable kvnt to hate Thailand's most "sanook" holiday...

That video of suk 11 brings back good memories as we usually stay there when were in Bangkok. It all looks so appealing when i'm back home in the states on a dark rainy night.

    thanks

I'm no linguist and my Thai sucks, but "pee" can mean "Year" or "Ghost" in Thai, right?

Anyway, hope you had a good one!

I find the continual soakings a big pain in the face ... & I wear Eye Glasses. A bit of water is fun ... but many young punk Thai's use the opportunity to cause problems c/w ferangs. I avoid Songkran like a plague!
