on reflection that OP is a troll / wind up ... there is a lot of DBP (dirty backpackers ) out there - but nobody coudl possibly be that cheap,

adn if they was they wouldn't have all the expensive electrical goods

and the smell DBP also tend to learn 7 words of thai (or whateva the local lingo is ) to prove they had an experience!

I reckon you can get by paying about 500 baht a day for a room (personally I'm happier paying about a thousand as there's a big difference). Food is cheap often free brekkie and 1-200 baht for dindins. The rest is beer 20 quid or 1500 baht a day would be adequate...

HeHe..just noticed the back to front teak door logo on the back of the bus.

BTW, Over the past couple of days when I quit drinking, I found myself spending about 150 baht a day, 50 on ciggies and the rest for food.

1.50 a day on food is pretty cheap if u ask me.

& if your renting somewhere outside of the main hotspots you could probably get a nice place for 3-4k & your bills would roughly be the same with a phone & internet.

That's not much more per day than the 250baht a day cheapskate....

excuse me but... beachroad whore st 500 baht , food 200 baht , transportation on foot, that leaves just 300 baht for a hovel ....the 1,000 baht/day budget is feasible only if you own your small condo and therefore pay no rent but only utilities.

When i first came here traveling about 7 years ago I got by on 1000bt a day but only because it was coming to the end of my travels and money was running out.

Room 250bt (in Koh San)
A Bangkok Post 20bt
2 meals at about 100bt each
A small bottle of Sang Som in the evening
And the rest on a couple of beers in Gullivers before bed

It wasn't much fun.

There's no way I could do that now but at the time I was looking for a job so had to make the money last.
