Bangkok Hotels - end of this month.

So, it turns out there's a holiday here in Oman at the end of the month, and I may be able to get to Bkk on the 21st.

Me house is in the sticks, a couple of hours from Bkk, the other side of Bkk from the airport, so I reckon I'll pop into Bkk for a 2 night stay before heading to the new house; I can see a few friends (Thais who like to meet in nice coffee shops...) and have a beer or 2.

I checked a couple of hotels on Agoda:

Holiday Inn Silom (very convenient for drinking) was 20 rial per night (about 1500 baht).
Dusit Thani was about 4,000 baht per night...

The hotels are cheap at the moment, so I reckon I can get a nice place for between 1,000 and 2,000 baht per night (and no, they don't have to be whore friendly...).

    Any suggestions?
    Cycling should be banned!!!

I will be wearing either a Liverpool, Arsenal or Man U football shirt at all times...

I don't mind which area, but Silom is central and convenient, I know the buses from that area, and the BTS and MRT are close.

^yes, that was the basis of my thinking. I'll be going out there for 1 night at least, so it won't be far to stagger... For 1,500 baht, seems like a good deal.

I work at a university and it's a term break. Sorry, might not be a break for you!

    How is Duqm?

Adelphi Suites Bangkok Serviced Apartment | Modern Stylish Studios & Suites in Sukhumvit Soi 8

This is my favourite BKK steam off joint these days. It's well positioned, though the Mrs might not like you being an easy stroll to soi 4 via one of BKK's leading BJ bars.

Have stayed there for as little as 1600 but it looks like the going rate is around 2500.

^2500 baht! Do you think I'm made of money???

It looks nice, but has extra facilities that I just don't need, plus it's in a noisy area that I don't want. I think I might just stick with the Holiday inn, Silom.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

The Landmark is nice, but it's 3000 baht per night. I just need an ok place to kip, I could probably find somewhere for 1000 baht per night... I'm being a bit of a cheap bastard at the moment, I have a lot of bills this and next month, so I'm taking care...

The bloody shitty Nana Hotel is 1800 per night, so the Holiday Inn at 1,600 seems a much better deal. I don't want anywhere noisy, I wanna pop to the doctor is Silom for some diazis, I wanna drink with some of you folks at FPs bar, I wanna meet some friends around Chula, I wanna sleep somewhere close and easy for 1 night or 2 nights, also somewhere that I can easily get to from the airport, and I can get the MRT/BTS up towards Nakhon Nayok then meet the missus somewhere to take me the rest of the way...

If close is 14 kilometers closer than Silom yes you can. 555. It ends at Mochit. But then its an hour and a half drive max, depending on traffic.

^yeah, I know. I might get a mini van from victory monument or a bus from mo chit to the NN turn off (via Dreamworld... ) then get a minivan from there. Haven't decided yet - I might even turn up unannounced and a few days early, how much fun could that be...

As Stick says, move quick, because now that dozy old fart has said he's going to "Shutdown Lumpini Park" only, the likelihood of skirmishes outside it will diminish, travel advisories will relax and people will start coming back.

Which means prices will go up again.

Duqm as stated in another thread makes Nizwa look like Bangkok, nothing here but one hotel with a bar, Crown Plaza which is expensive and that's it bar the dock yard which is where I am working, havn't even got the choice of the Falaj or the Tulip happy days.
