We set off from Don Muang early Monday morning. Quite surprised at how many restaurants there were in the departure lounge at DM. i had a Burger King for breakfast and a 70bht(!) can of Singha.
Taxi from airport to center of town was a fixed 120bht. Could have taken a red songtaew but wasn't sure where we were going..
We stayed here: Baan Say la Guesthouse Chiang Mai. A small place but on Soi 5 of Rahminininiiiin so seemed central. Room was OK and had a balcony. Bed was well hard though.. no idea how much we paid. wife booked it. floors were well cold.
Monday consisted of eating and sleeping (a constant theme of our holidays). Did a little walking but not a lot.
Most notable was a beer at Beer Republic (Beer Republic Chiang Mai | 15 Imported Draft Beers in the Heart of Niman), would have eaten there but we had just eaten. looked nice if a little pricey. so i had a Bavaria (very nice) and wifey had an ice cream (nice also).
After a nap we headed out. i had a beer or 2 at a bar while ze wife went for a head massage. afterwards we waddled our fat asses to Little Lanna (https://www.facebook.com/LittleLanna). A Northern Thai food restaurant. Now I'm not a fan of Thai food but it was quite yummy. I mean it was no Burger King, but it was nice.
The next day we got up and had a crap breakfast across the road. (they didn't sell English Breakfast Tea).
Back to bed for a nap and in the afternoon we ventured forth to 'Art in Paradise'. Unsure how to get there and not planning it at all I think we paid a premium for a tuk-tuk (how else do Chiang Mai people get around????).
Bit of a kick in the balls that I had to pay 300bht ('cos I iz white) while the wife got away with 180bht. Should have bought my Work Permit...
..but other than that it was quiet and a nice place to spend an hour or so. Loads of photo opportunities. see below
After that we walked down the street and had some food from a place called The Kitchen (The Kitchen, Chiang Mai - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor)
My burger was nice but wife wasn't that keen on the Pad Thai. I did manage 2 big bottles of Leo though..
In the evening we went to my Auntie-in-laws house where we finished the night drinking home made rice wine with grapes in or something.
Wednesday was our last day and as my family tradition goes it was greeted with an alcoholic beverage, it is xmas afterall...
Checked out and an absurdly expensive taxi (250bht) to the airport (he went through an army base??? and it took about 5 minutes..) we arrived at the airport. A burger King for a xmas brunch then through to departures where I had resigned myself to following the wife around the shops, when by some xmas miracle there was a bar open. so i had a beer there while she walked about.
..and then we all lived happily ever after.
