Hua Hin - still a dump

I was in Hua Hin recently and, while I admit it was/is low season, this place needs some development and some amphur enforcement. While the Centara Hotel next to the public beach is a beautiful old building, they can't even muster up a premium international draft beer (eg only Singh available). Walking down the horseshit covered stretch of sand to the Hilton which, like the Centara, is on about its third name and hotel chain, and it's a similar story. Only canned beer available - but at least it's Heneiken. All the same gritty little bars are there, many of them on their fourth or fifth owners in the last ten years. Place is tired and boring, sand and water always brown. Do something - for starters get the fcukjng horses off the beach

This is the beach where I stayed recently, I wasnt game to take my shoes off for fear of broken glass and syringes and the water, well I'm sure there was shit in it.
But, the Russians seemed to like swimming there.

The advent and over-saturation of Farang and Farang ideals has created the dump....

Looking at the picture above I thought it was the Thais throwing their shit in the sea and on the ground which ends up in the sea and back on the beach that was a problem.
That and being greedy but not smart about it by making 5000 of the same thing everywhere in an attempt to fleece the falang and then getting all upset when falang doesnt want yet another massage , a ride in your speedboat or in your fken tuk tuk.

Hua hin is parallel to Pattaya in the toilet bowl shaped part of the gulf of Thailand.
No matter how much horse shut you keep out of there it's never gonna be clear.

The lumpen proles that restrict their experience of hua hin to the small area between the hilton and the centara get exactly what they deserve, a shitty stretch of beach, the attentions of greedy peddlers, run down bars with past their prime prostitutes and a dismal area[at]of lanes and streets peddling overpriced tat and overpriced food to gormless tourists and thais with more money than sense.


Hua hin is much more than that, you need to get away from the centre.

Sometimes I used to pop to Canvey Island for the day. I can honestly say that, average as CI was (is?), Hua Hin offeres little if any more... Okay, you have a bit more sun, a few darker girls (maybe not these days...), some exotic beers, Chang, Singha, some actual sandish stuff rather than rocks, other people, Starbucks, a sea you won't freeze your nuts off in, some decent Thai restaurants (on English style piers I noticed...), a Hilton, some bars (pretty awful ones), and maybe feels like a holiday place rather than a council estate by the sea, but apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us?

&, where are the fish and chips?

I can honestly say that I'd rather sit in Canvey Island with some fish and chips than Hua Hin. Maybe that's a reflection of me being here too long...

Hua hin is much more than that, you need to get away from the centre.

I agree Tax that driving south of the centre things look a bit better, with the intercon and amari. Still if the centre "prestigious and aristocratic" Hua Hin can't raise it's game other than adding a Subway and a Burger King over the last decade then there are serious issues there
