I suppose you mean Chiang Khong which has a border crossing to Laos. In Chiang Khan only Thais can cross the river to Laos but there is a relatively new friendship bridge near Tha Li, about 40 km west of Chiang Khan where you can cross into Laos now.

Good report mate, I done that trip in January this year, nice and cool up there then. Bit friggin hot this time of years innit.

One thing that pisses me off about that area is that you cannot get a decent bloody beer. Its Singa, Chang or that poison Cheers all the way.

Cant even pull a Guinness from 7/11 so I was forced to drink Chang which for me is the best of a shit lot.

Christ, I'm in khan looking into Laos and dreaming about the Dark, near on had a break down and had to swim across the the river to score some lovely nectar which is the Dark innit.

Anyway, you know what I'm on about even though some nasty foreigner's ain't good a clue.

    koo Wee mate.

PS. I'll green your arse for a top thread. Ripper Eh.

Beerlao tastes like the old KB beer. It's decent but nothing special. Asahi is heaps better.

really? pretty basic food you can get anywhere

Not in Malaysia! They douse all thai food with a lot of sugar here...sweet somtom is not pleasant.

"As usual the missus orders enough to feed half of issan "

Thai women always order too much food. They prefer to waste food/money then not have enough.

Absolutely awesome... I keep meaning to go up that way, but always seem to be stuck in Surin when I am in the Northeast. Looks like I will now be making the trip up next August. The resort details will come in useful. Cheers!!!

Just found this thread. My first visit was to Loei. Loved it. Would move there, but the Mrs is not keen as a past flame lives in Chiang Khan. Still wonderful place and the people real nice apart from my ex. lol Stayed at the same hotel got agoda rates could not believe what you got for $25-30. Nice having the footystadium across the road.

Top thread as usual Beery. Love the pics of the sun setting in the haze over the river. To me that scene always screams ASIA.

    Will green if able.
