Camping in Suan Phung

After crimbo we set off to Suan Phung for a few days camping. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there from Bangkok but that included a brief stop to leave Somchai the Dog with the inlaws.

After sharing a beer with me..

Suan Phung is probably best known for it's Flintstones hotel and its sheep farms.

We stayed at Phuyuno Camping. It was rather far away from everything but that's OK 'cos there's not much in Suan Phung anyway

We went for a large size tent which is apparently fit for 3 or 4 people. Now unless you know these people very well that is complete bollox. There was 2 of us in 1. we had 1 bed roll each and 1 sleeping bag each, the 3rd spot was used as somewhere to put our stuff. Where you would put your belongings if 3 people were in the tent I have no idea. but anyway, the actual campsite was lovely, chill, clean and relaxing. We were pretty much on our own the first night, the 2nd they put up loads of tents so it didn't looks so nice but not many were used so it didn't matter.

The first night was probably one of my worst ever. It was too hot for the first half and too cold the second. The floor was uncomfortable, and condensation was rife in the tent (i think cos we closed everything..) to be fair that was probably our fault as the second night was rather nice. Although I had half a bottle of Sang Som before retiring the second night..

Not very spacious.

there was a wooden bridge. (ooOOOooooohhhHHHH!!!!)

Not a fan of the bogs and showers.

You could rent a room too,

We ate at a place called Good View Steak House. No lamb chops. The beef steak was OK, looks well undercooked but what do I know? was quite tasty, had chips with it or France Fires as they call them here...

The misses can't resist a sheep. I think she's part welsh.

Not a lot to do during the day, there was a candle place. very exciting.

The roads went between newly built and lovely to 'Oh my fucking god how is the Nissan March going to survive this..'

More sheep farms.

I'm growing a beard to look hard.

All in all it was a bit cold and boring, 700km driven in 3 days seemed a bit much for me, not very relaxing. Although plenty of places to stop for a quick refreshment...

Nice place though.

Knew I recognized the area. Some great motorbike riding roads in the area. Can explore some back roads and mountains and sneakily end up in Burma.

I think I'd go for the room option. and eaten else where.

How much to pitch a tent?

200bht per person, and 500bht rental for the tent per night...

To be honest...never heard of it before so thanks for sharing. Always nice to learn something new.

I recon if you're gonna go then now is the time. Wouldn't want to be in a tent in the hot season.

Yes...a lovely shade of blue that. Clearly already some falang blood in the gene pool. At this rate, if she has any lambs they could be a sort of fluffy biped with a bit of an attitude.

Nice Tread,any problem with mosquitoes?
I have mentioned to our Gert about buying a tent so we can have a camping holiday,but i think she thinks it means we have run out of money for a proper holiday.

actually none. maybe too cold? about 7pm it went proper cold. Thought I might be able to see my breath at 6am but I was too drunk to focus.

it's a setting on my iphone i think. DSR or something. takes 3 pictures and chooses the best parts. Obviously doesn't seem to work too well with moving objects.

Thanks for the photos. I have seen these campsites before but they always seemed empty. Did it really fill up when you were there?

No, but the owners put up about 20 more tents around our grassy bit making it feel like it. in reality only half a dozen had people staying in.

The only way to eat good meat, but the meat in Thailand... hmmmm, usually needs to be slightly more cooked. Medium rare for me.

Thanks for the thread and the pics Arm ,, certainly confirmed what I allready knew about camping ,, and that was never to go !

Why anyone ever wants to put thereselves through such discomfort in the name of persuing the pleasures of camping I will never know .

HOWEVER ,,,, hold on ,,,,,, I know thousands really enjoy it and bloody good luck to them ,, I prefer a bit of comfort thats all ,,,,,,,,,and the fact I cant find a tent / marquee big enuf to shack up in

Armstrong. Lovely pictures etc. I just can't believe you paid that amount of money to stay in a tent. I live just outside Cha-am in Petchaburi, near the mountains. Next time you want to 'get away'...Come and visit me.600 baht per night and I'll throw in a fino!

Certainly a nice thread, thanks for sharing. Nice pictures and for those who do not care for camping, a waste but to get out and do something a little different is great. I personally outgrew tent camping long ago, had a string of travel trailers which is the next step up. Then like Nigel, roughing it is a stay at an 8 Days Inn! Good thread keep on exploring.
