No, the plane crashed into the building place was just outside Ermita not too far from Hobbit house. Also used to go for the lunchtime ' as much as you can eat ' deal at Shakeys Pizza.
Actually, I didn't think these old pictures would be that interesting. Wished I'd taken a few more while I was back in the U.K. going through all of them.
Next year I guess.

Jesus, I got a heap of hard copy pics to scan up but still to stupid to work it all out.
Just cant get them sized properly.
I use a much simpler method Terry. Just lay your old pictures on the floor then take pictures of them with a digital camera set on macro. A whole lot easier and if you take your time you can get some better results than my efforts , which were taken in a bit of a hurry.
To finish off, load them onto a photoshop program and crop off any untidy images etc.
^^You can re-size them by, scanning to Picassa, then click open and fit the page. Then send. You may have some resolution problems, but you have many options for improving picture quality.
Interesting Hobbits...

Christ almighty, I thought I was a computer retard.
There you go, three solutions lickity-split. Great memory jogger Bangyai, surely does bring back memories from an even earlier time. Alas no pictures survived the ensuing years of moving and girlfriends/wives.

^ First thing I got rid of was pictures of "ex-wives." Kept all the pictures of my pets however. Loyalty you know is everything.
makes me want to write my sister and get all my old pics form the early 80's in Pattaya and than Phuket when i moved down in '84.
Many changes and have to agree the thai's certainly fucked up Nai Harn. Stayed at the small thai style bungalows on the hill side oppsoite the Phuket Yacht club. Great sunsets
What a great thread and thanks for sharing!
^^Great photos and sound trac from Phuketrichard, be sure to watch!!!
seems quite a few here stayed at Grandpa's
Great thread. Thanks for sharing. They certainly have fucked up Phuket. Was just there. Couldn't believe how it had changed over the last 22 years!
The lagoon has been turned into quite an attractive lake with a large wat beside it. Part of the natural lagoon still exists and is great for bathing. Very limited development around the actual beach. I would not say Nai Harn is an example of unrestrained development ruining the natural beauty of a location.
Great thread Bang Yai. Cheers.
Great post.
That pic of nai harn brings back memories.i first stayed there in 1978 when John the copper had his bungalows on the beach, junkies died there regularly.
We stayed in bungalows on the northern end above the estuary for two dollars a night I think.
The following year and from then on we stayed on the Point beyond where the yacht club is now,I believe that the bungalows are still there.
We walked once over the hill and found some broken down bungalows on 10 acres of beachfront for sale at karon or kata-it is where club med is now.
25000 dollars then!!!
Patong only had the old concrete hotel and no people,we did magic mushies there.
I went to koh Samui when it only had one set of bungalows on cha weng beach built by two Swedish seamen.
I remember driving the old Alfa Spyder to hua hin about 1978 and staying in the railway hotel pre Reno,it was great.
I remember the deer hunter being filmed in Bangkok, noi the Thai beauty in the film lived in our apartment block.the bar scenes were filmed in the missippi queen in pat pong.
The meteorogical building on sukumvit was the us embassy, now it is queen sirikit park.
Yep, no road around Ko Samui then, just a dirt track.
Also remember the Railway at Hua Hin .... very rustic then. On the beach they had these huge umbrella things, very thick , wide and low , made of leaves of some sort. Good for me with my fair skin. Next time I went they had been replaced by cheap foldable cloth ones. I got fried and my dirty weekend with the company secretary was ruined
Next year I'll dig out all my old pics and do a better job .
Yeah, keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel
Yeah, we're goin' to the Roadhouse
We're gonna have a real
Good time
Yeah, back at the Roadhouse they got some bungalows
Yeah, back at the Roadhouse they got some bungalows
And that's for the people
Who like to go down slow
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, all night long
I know cause I was on the left
The Farang in photo 3 is Todd lavelle now known as Todd Tongdee. He was singing a doors song. Probably the Road house blues!
It was indeed roadhouse blues !!
Ah ha ........... we have a star in our midst ! Thanks for dropping in Todd. That was a long long time ago wasn't it ?! The only thing I can recall is that my guitar work was a bit pathetic as usual on account of hitting the stage the worse for various substances.
Ah well , glad you went on to greater things as per your plan, and thanks for posting
Hmmmm ............. unless of course you mean you are on the left of the first picture , in which case hello G !
Last I heard you were in China so I guess a ' Ni ha ' would be the right greeting.
Helped my friend move house last week and came across a set of photos of my wedding I hadn't seen or knew existed. I asked him why he'd never shown me the pictures and when I looked at them I could see why.
Outside Clark Air base
Freadie Aguilar i think ! he used to play @ The Hobbit House
