The Office of the National Culture Commission, the Japan Foundation and the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation will host two Japanese taiko groups, who will perform in Chiang Mai and Bangkok next month.
The performances will be held as part of the "Great Artists of the World Festival" to commemorate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's 80th birthday, in December next year, and to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Thai-Japan diplomatic relations.
The first taiko group, Tokyo Dagekidan, consists of all male musicians, five Japanese drummers and one 'shino bue' (Japanese flute) player. The group will perform at the Grand Amphitheatre at the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek in Chiang Mai on January 13.
The second group, Hono-O-Daiko, which consists of three female members, will perform in Bangkok with Tokyo Dagekidan.
A joint performance will be held at the Thailand Cultural Centre on January 16 at 7pm.
