PHUKET: Organizers of Phuket Bike Week have reported record-breaking attendance at this year’s event with about 7,000 bikers and enthusiasts making their way to the island from ‘chapters’ all over the world to take part in a variety of activities that were held between April 10 and 12.

Events over the three days under the theme "Global Warming, Riding for Peace", included custom bike exhibitions, tree planting, safety demonstrations, a Miss Bike Week beauty contest at Jungceylon and a beach party and music festival at Loma Park on Patong Beach.

According to estimates by the organizers, the event has brought about 7 million baht into the province with each participant spending around 10,000 baht over the three days.

Between stage performances and award-giving ceremonies at Patong Beach, which included a concert by Thai Reggae music legend Job 2 Do, the organizers expressed their gratitude to Patong Municipality and to Phuket Provincial Police for facilitating this year’s event. They also hailed the event a roaring success with no accidents reported and for participants projecting a message of world peace and unity.

Khun Tu, a biker from Pattaya, told the Gazette, “We are trying to build a campaign of peace because we know what is like to be young and hot headed. We want people to love each other and bring peace to Thailand”.

    Phuket bike week

    Phuket bike week

Hi guys, Im standing at Jungceylon for the 15th Annual Phuket Bike Week. Lets go check out some cool bikes!

Varieties of distinctively designed and striking motorcycles were parked for display at Jungceylon for the opening of the 15th annual big Phuket Bike Week which lasted for 3 days from the 10th to 12th April, just before Songkran festivities.

The event was organized by the Phuket Rider Club, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Patong Municipality who co-hosted the event with Jungceylon, with appearances of honored guests such as Mr. Wichai Praisangob, Phuket Governor and Add Carabao - a legendary famous musician & life singer and part-time Harley Davidson rider.

Bikers from other provinces near Phuket and other countries such as Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Japan and America also attended the event in their signature biker style black leather jackets and jeans: they all looked incredibly macho or flamboyant.

The Phuket Governor was welcomed on stage and gave out a speech about the purpose of this event and how honored and excited he felt.

He stated that this event was held to promote tourism and safety of Phuket regarding safely on the roads wearing helmets, follow traffic rules whilst still enjoying the festival and beaches on the island.

He also stressed that Phuket is still a beautiful island filled with cultures, great facilities and shopping.

The ASEAN education & finance summit was recently held here showing that the island is safe and still as vibrant as its shining sun.

Not only bikes were on display; merchandise such as accessories for bikers, T-shirts and leather goods were also on sale at reasonable prices.

Many bikers and visitors brought along their children and family members and some were even joined in the bikers parade starting from the front of Jungceylon heading into Soi Bangla lane.

Wichai Praisangob and Add Carabao were leading the parade along with Lek from Phuket Rider Club and other bikers.

The next day they went on a peace road tour of the island and ended up at Thai Naan Restaurant near Central Festival for a great get together and grand-dinner, so we caught up with some of them there and asked British, Swiss and German Bikers, what they liked about Phuket and the Bike Festival:

    Two British Guys/One Girl
    Swiss Guy
    French Guy
Somjid Jongjohor, Thailands Olympic 2008 gold winning boxer, was also on hand as a bike enthusiast, and he told us how excited he was to be involved with his young son coming along for the ride:.

There were other activities throughout the week-end of Bike Week including beauty or were they the beast contests man and machines, toys for boys, Hells Angels or Big Choppers whatever you call them, they still looked and sounded cool.

This event proved to Phuket residents, visitors and tourists that
Phuket is still a safe place to ride into and the 15th Phuket Bike Week rolled out a whole load of Easy Riders who easily found a fun time and friendly fans to rev up the resort. This is Zenniesha, reporting for Andaman News.
