Pattaya and Naklua celebrate the Songkran Festival.

Pattaya and Naklua celebrate the Songkran Festival.

Over the weekend Pattaya and Naklua celebrated their respective Songkran Festival’s and thousands of revellers descended on the area to enjoy two of the last Songkran Festivals to take place here in Thailand for this year. We toured the city to take in the atmosphere of the big day and as predicted traffic congested the streets as the partying began in the early hours and continued until dusk. We can report that the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were busy but told us that serious accidents directly related to Songkran here in Pattaya were lower than last year. We hope that you had an enjoyable Songkran and for those that remained inside their homes during the day to avoid the water fighting we can confirm that it is now safe to venture outdoors once again.
Overall reports suggest that there were more people taking part in Songkran this year despite recent events which have been well publicised in the national and international press over the last few weeks.
There were some incidents, notably a shooting in Naklua which took place on Saturday evening which injured four people. Police believe the shooting was a random act and a local gang based in Naklua were to blame. A 27 year old Australian Tourist was one of the injured people and sustained a wound to his stomach. Luckily no one was seriously injured and Banglamung Police is now locating the well known gang members at this time.
